URGENT NEED DOG!

Jackie 04/10/14 *Adopted* 04/13/14

Jackie 04/10/14 *Adopted* 04/13/14

Jackie is a 12-year-old Jack Russell Terrier who weighs 20 pounds. Oftentimes this breed is considered hyper but Jackie wants you to know he is NOT like that! Jackie is a calm, quiet boy with a sweet disposition. Jackie has lived with another dog before and is social with dogs he meets. He has been good with gentle children and also good with cats, even those his family has “cat-sat”in the past. While Jackie is a great burrower, content to find a blanket or article of your clothing to snuggle into, he’s also still able to go for a daily walk for up to 3 miles! Jackie can be left alone for a work day, he’s a good boy who is not yappy. His current owner says he should go to a home with a fenced yard. Doesn’t he sound like the perfect dog? Jackie is in need of a new home VERY soon. He is posted for his owner in Tenino.

Corky 04/06/14

Corky 04/06/14

Corky is a 22-pound, about 10-year-old, little ??? breed – terrier of some kind but mixed with what, we just don’t know. He is a VERY sweet guy, really easy to live with. He’s good with other dogs but would probably be fine as an “only”, and he’s good with cats. He likes to be with you and be where you are but isn’t clingy – he’d hop up on your lap for a bit but doesn’t stay for long. Sweet Corky loves to sleep under the covers, however – that is his major request in a new home. He has basic leash manners and seems to know some tricks also; he is capable of walks but more than happy to sleep the day away if you don’t want to be active. He’s OK at home during the workday with other dogs (and might be OK with a cat for company) and doesn’t bark except to greet you on coming home. This calm little fellow doesn’t particularly like car rides and – as with most small senior dogs – isn’t really suited for children, but otherwise is pretty bombproof. Corky has had a series of foster homes and is really ready to settle down for good and be your very best companion. Corky is in foster care in Maple Valley.

Chelsea 04/06/14

Chelsea 04/06/14

Chelsea is another dog whose breed mix we’re guessing at. Australian Shepherd and spaniel, perhaps? She’s 9-11 years old and weighs just under 30 pounds. Chelsea came to us with half her hair missing from Flea Allergy Dermatitis but otherwise quite healthy. After about 10 weeks her skin is healed and the hair is beginning to come back in – it may take several more months to cover her bald spot but with that beautiful face who will notice? Chelsea is very submissive toward humans and, though not clingy, she LOVES attention and will happily sit with her head in your lap. She enjoys hanging out with other dogs in her foster home and does fine out walking when she meets other dogs. (She does sometimes display “herding” behavior while playing, however, and the first day with her new siblings after a very stressful shelter stay was tough.) She mostly ignores the cat in her home and is great with the teens, rides well in the car and has learned to play fetch. Chelsea hasn’t been left alone for an entire day and may be barky if left separate from the other dogs; she’d like to be surrounded by her pack. Pretty Ms. Chelsea would like to find a home with friendly dogs and friendly humans to devote herself to. She is in foster care in Brier.

Pickle 03/11/14

Pickle 03/11/14

Little Pickle is a “big toy” poodle girl, about 8-9 years old and 10 pounds. She came to ODH from a shelter, seemingly not far past nursing puppies and with a nasty cough. Now she’s spayed, healthy, and very happy – ready to meet you! She does fine with the small and large dogs in her foster home (we’ve not seen her around cats) though she does guard her toys – and swipe them from others if she can. We think she’d much prefer to have other dogs in her new home, as she likes to cuddle with them and learns from their behavior. Pickle is still a lively little girl with lots of energy; she’s not great on a leash yet because of that, but she would love to run around all day if she could. She can jump up on the bed without problem, stairs shouldn’t be a problem. Indoors, she LOVES to sit on your lap, give kisses and look adoringly into your eyes. Though she can run around like a wild woman, she can relax close by you for long periods of time and will settle in wherever you are. She’s easily trained because she wants so much to please her people. Pickle’s mom says anyone would be lucky to have her! Pickle is in foster care in Seattle.

Ali 04/13/14

Ali is a 10-year-old male terrier mix who weighs 15 pounds. He has never lived with another dog but he has been fine with those he’s met. Ali has never been observed around cats and does best with older children. Ali can do stairs, is excellent on a leash and loves going for walks. He considers himself a lap dog; he is very approachable and really loves people. He is a dog who has reached that wonderful age -mellowed with time and calm but still with enough energy to get out and go with you. Ali is crate trained and knows basic commands. Currently he can go 4-5 hours without a potty break. This nice boy will make a wonderful companion. He is posted for his owner in Seattle.

Gabe 04/11/14

Gabe 04/11/14

Gabe is a beautiful Catahoula Leopard Dog mix. What a gorgeous coat! He’s a pretty big boy, weighing in at 88 pounds, and he is 8 years old. Gabe is one of the friendliest dogs at his shelter! When he hears you coming, you will be greeted by the thump, thump, thump of his tail as he happily awaits you. He is very calm and easy-going and would like nothing better than to have a wonderful new home of his own.

His coat is a very striking tan color with black tips. Beez is housebroken and has had some training. He likes other dogs, cats, and older kids. He is one cute little dog in search of a great new forever home. Might it be yours?

Alfie 04/11/14

Alfie 04/11/14

Alfie is a great little mixed breed dog. Perhaps Shih Tzu and Schnauzer, we’re not really sure. He’s a senior at 15 years old and weighs 20 pounds. Alfie has eye issues and is basically blind, but he gets around fine and walks on his leash well. He’s very friendly and likes other dogs, kids, and cats. He’s a sweet dog who would like nothing more than a nice comfortable and loving home in which to live out his golden years.

Reggie 04/09/14

Reggie 04/09/14

“Allow me to introduce myself: My name is Sir Reginald Drake but to my friends and family I am Reggie. I am a Lhasa Apso. If you look up my breed on Wikipedia, you will note that I was bred to be a loyal companion dog and that I want to please my humans. This is so true, but at this point I am alone without my old dog friend who died at the end of last year. My humans work very long hours and I’m outside in a kennel during that time. I have never lived with cats but I have been a good boy around some family member’s kids. I will be 12 years old next month but that’s not OLD! I am good on a leash and would like to join you for walks and car rides. I can do stairs but as you can see my legs are twisted (like a lot of Lhasa’s are) so a new home with not many stairs would be nice. I do only weigh 15 pounds so if you’re so inclined you can carry me! I am hoping to find a new home very soon.” Reggie is posted for his owners in Everett.

Torii 04/09/14

Torii 04/09/14

Sweet Torii’s life was turned upside down when the only owner she had ever known surrendered her after 12 years together! Try to imagine having to build a completely new life for yourself in middle age and you may better understand Torii’s Alice in Wonderland reaction. This 14-pound Rat Terrier girl is slowly growing out of her shock and loss but hasn’t reached a trusting place yet. She is not ready to be picked up but does like to be near people. She will jump on the couch to sit near her foster parents and is then comfortable with touch to her neck area. Torii crates wonderfully at night, is not reactive on a leash, is not a barker, handles stairs with ease, and loves interactive toys and bully sticks. She also seems to enjoy being around other dogs if they are not hyperactive. Torii does not potty in the house if taken out every five hours or so during the day. She may be house trained, in fact, but is still too uncertain about her new environment to be accident-free when left alone longer than that. Torii’s ideal adoptive home would be calm and peaceful without kids who might chase or grab her. An adopter willing to take her on the walks she loves could help her shed a pound or two to reach a healthy weight. What Torii wants most of all, though, is a home with predictability, security, and safety, and the promise of never having to leave. Torii is posted for New Rattitude Rescue and is in Seattle.

Winston is a very cute, compact little Yorkie who weighs 8.8 pounds and is about 10 years old. He’s a gentle little guy who gets along well with other polite dogs and loves curling up with his human buddies. He is the perfect-sized buddy to watch a movie with or go for a stroll around the lake. Kami K 03/27/14

Kami K, an 11-year-old Lhasa Apso, was left at the shelter by her owners who were moving. This beautiful girl is eager to please, just put on her leash and she will walk with you anywhere. She is a quiet gal who gets along with everyone she meets. She is waiting patiently for a loving home where she can curl up and make you feel like you are the most important person in the world. She might like to have a doggie friend who is as calm as she is or maybe even a cat, but is probably not suited for a home with children.

Jerry 03/28/14

Jerry 03/28/14

Jerry or “JB” the Boxer is about 8 years old but shows no signs of arthritis and doesn’t move like a senior. It’s clear that someone spent some time with him because he can sit, shake, lie down, and stay. He loves his crate and easily goes in if his foster parents need to leave him home. Jerry only really barks when people come to the door but he is not aggressive. He doesn’t care about cats and does fine around children. He is kind of a lone wolf in dog-pack land; he isn’t real fond of little yapping dogs or very high-energy dogs because he likes the mellower, low-key life. Jerry is a super laid-back guy who loves to couch surf, take a short stroll around the neighborhood and then get in his bed for a nap. He is great on the leash and even gets moving into a jog. He is low maintenance and loves to spend his time curled up sleeping, although he will play ball with a tennis ball. Jerry would be a great addition to the right family. He wants to please and love you. Are you Jerry’s forever-after love? He certainly wants to be yours. He’s being fostered in the Pullman area.

Butkus & Abby 03/28/14

Butkus & Abby 03/28/14

Butkus (Buck) and Abby are a wonderful pair of senior Boxers who are completely bonded to each other. Abby is most definitely in charge and Buck happily let’s her run the show. He is such a laid-back type of guy he routinely lets her sit right down on top of him! At 11 years old Buck runs and plays like a puppy and boy can he jump! He has a few creaky joints, but is otherwise in perfect health. The vet thinks it’s possible he has a little bit of Lab mixed in with all his Boxer goodness, which would explain his long legs and could give him some additional longevity. He is a big boy at 90 pounds, but he plays with the very young puppy in his foster home so very gently. He lets that little rascal climb all over him, bite his tail and even try to ride him like a pony, and Buck just gives a small sigh as if to say, “look what I have to put up with!”

Abby is a very young 9 years old with a super sweet temperament. She just wants to be loved on and will wiggle her way into the middle of anyone else getting some attention. She can hear petting going on two rooms away! She does love to be outside and exploring but her favorite thing to do is nap next to her people and Buck.

They absolutely LOVE going in the car! They will race for the door when the magic words “let’s go” are said. They can stay alone in the car with no issues other than a possible move into the front for a better view. Abby and Buck also love walks, but Buck is a major puller. Abby does beautifully on leash and so does Buck when in the right equipment. Neither Buck nor Abby show any kind of aggression about anything. They get along with all sizes of other dogs with proper introductions; however, they would do best in a home without cats. They are superb with children, no jumping up or pushing over. They can be left alone in the home without getting into anything, so crating is not necessary as long as they have each other. They will bark an alert if they hear someone at the door and will head to the fence line when the neighbor’s dog barks, but both stop barking almost immediately. These two amazing dogs would be perfect companions for any family and will most certainly bring such joy and loving that you will just not believe! Abby and Buck are being fostered in Kingston, Washington. This pair is posted for Northwest Boxer Rescue.

Veronica 03/27/14

Veronica 03/27/14

Veronica is an American Eskimo Dog, 15 pounds and about 10 years old. She is a friendly delightful girl with the most beautiful smile! She greets you with enthusiasm but her leash manners are impeccable. Veronica gets along well with other dogs, but doesn’t feel the same about kitties. She is deaf so will need to be securely fenced or on leash – we at ODH know how easy it is to train deaf dogs and how well their other senses allow them to function. Veronica understands hand signals and watches people closely. Because of her age and deafness, she would do best in a home without young children.

Duke 03/27/14 *Adopted* 04/15/14

Duke is a unique-looking Schnauzer/Beagle mix who is only 8 years old. He weighs 35-40 pounds. He is diabetic, it is controlled and kept regulated by insulin injections given twice a day. Don’t let that scare you! He is an active guy who does well on a leash, loves to get out for walks and enjoys getting outside to chase squirrels and rabbits. Duke has lived with another dog and is good with children; his exposure to cats was temporary. Duke is crate-trained and is used to being crated while you are away. Duke is a sweet boy who loves to cuddle. If you have never had a dog with diabetes it could sound challenging but in truth is not once you get on a schedule. Duke promises to make the effort you make to keep him healthy well worth your while. He is posted for his owner in Mount Vernon.

Everyone at the shelter loves this guy, he is calm, sweet and a great walker – a lover for sure. Doogie seeks a home that will help him slim down…. a lot. Walking would be a fun way to work on that. Kiera is a beautiful black 8-year-old ex-racing greyhound who weighs around 70 pounds and was born on St. Patrick’s Day. She is a wonderful, sweet and funny girl who has the most dainty way of walking. She has excellent house manners, enjoys car rides and going for walks. She loves her meals and her bed Kiera has been in a home before and was returned through no fault of hers. She was an only dog in her previous home, but she may need the company of another dog. She gets along well with the other greyhound in her foster home. She is very timid with children and has nipped a young child, so we do not recommend her with children. Charlie Brown 03/11/14

Charlie Brown 03/11/14

Charlie Brown is an 8-year-old handsome mix of Border Collie and perhaps heeler/cattle dog? He’s currently overweight at 92 pounds, he needs to lose quite a few pounds and his caretaker is working on that. Charlie Brown’s owner died so he was taken in by a breed rescue and a kind family is providing a foster home. Charlie Brown is great on a leash and he loves getting out for walks; he really needs to go to a home with someone who will commit to his diet and exercise regime. He has been kind of a bully though not aggressive aggressive to the resident dog; he has however, done fine while out walking as he meets new dogs. Charlie Brown should go to a home with someone who is dog savvy, we’re not positive that he should be an “only” dog but that may be easiest. He has not been observed around cats or kids. Charlie Brown can stay alone for a work day, he sleeps in a crate at night but would prefer to share the bed with his human. He is a very loving dog who is described by his caretaker as “sweet tempered and affectionate”. Charlie Brown is posted for his caretaker in Snohomish.

Ipa-Mae 02/03/14

Ipa-Mae 02/03/14

“Howdy! I’m Ipa-Mae (pronounced Eeepa-May) or just Ipa for short as my peeps call me. Mix Westie, a little bit of Pomeranian and a little bit of Poodle and the result is me: 13 pounds of PURE CUTE. I am 9 years young. There was another terrier that I lived with but I didn’t like him much; I prefer dogs unlike myself or we will butt heads. I’m looking for a new home where I’m the boss- at least of the non-humans. I may be OK with another dog as long as it’s calm and not bossy, I get along with some family members’ dogs. I live with cats now and they’re boring so I leave them alone. My family brought me home when I was just a wee puppy. For a long time it was just us and I was #1. Then they brought home a wee human. I’ve been nice to the child but now I hear they’re bringing home another one. That means even less attention for me! I can stay by myself while you go off to work, I will go in my crate and wait for you to come home. Being a smart little girl, I’ve learned to ring a bell to say I need a potty break! I can do stairs and go for short walks but I have a knee that slips sometimes (luxating patella, common in little dogs). Don’t let that sway you though, we can still have fun! I can guard the yard if you need me to, just make sure that the fence is secure or else I will escape and take off. Things have changed so much and more changes are coming; sometimes I get a little nervous about it all. My family would like to find a home where I can get more attention and I would like that as well. Until that home can be found I am living with my family in Poulsbo.”

I am one happy boy! My name ? Oh, sorry, I forgot… I’m Kona, and my buddies at West Columbia Gorge Humane Society in Washougal are trying to find me a home because my 9-year-old Labrador-mix bones could use something more comfortable than a shelter kennel. I prefer to be the only animal since I have been the only animal and I am not used to sharing. I would do best in a family with no children, but know that I am super-duper-friendly and AMAZING! I’ve had my shots and I’m neutered, and really, I am READY TO GO!! That’s where you come in! Please, see if you can help me find a Kona-worthy home really really soon. Lucky 12/31

Lucky 12/31/13

Lucky is a 10-year-old bundle of love. He is shy of women but warms up once he gets to know them. He does love men from the moment he meets them. He is a quiet, gentle soul who would love to have someone with him most of the time and take him for car rides; he’s OK left home with doggie companionship but would rather be with people. He lived in the mountains of Idaho and spent his days with loggers but now finds himself without a home. Due to unforeseen circumstances, his owner was forced to live in a car with Lucky. Fortunately some kind people stepped in and rescued Lucky, to the relief of his owner, and now he is searching for his forever home. Lucky is a Lab mix, possibly with shepherd. He is fully housetrained, likes to roughhouse with adults but is quiet and calm in the house. He gets along with all dogs of all sizes, his foster brothers and sisters range from 8 to 110 pounds. He loves toys and balls. Small children not recommended because of his size. This boy is really looking for someone to love and spend his days with, in the car or just hanging out. Lucky is posted for Rebecca’s Rainbow and is in Tacoma. ODH has not met this dog; we urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation.

Bella 12/02/13

Bella 12/02/13

This is Bella and her name certainly suits her as she is a beauty. Bella is a 10-year-old Siberian Husky who weighs 43 pounds. She has spent most of her time living outside the past 6 years; there have been some nights where she’s been allowed to come inside and has done fine. We feel of course that Bella should be adopted into a home where she is allowed to live inside with her family. She has been good with the pack of dogs she has lived with but has never been observed around cats and would prefer a home with kids age 12 and over. Bella can do stairs, she would enjoy taking daily walks, getting out to run and play. Most of all Bella just wants to be with her people; she’s a social girl who is affectionate and loves attention. She is posted for her owner in Tacoma. ODH has not met this dog; we urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation.

Cheyenne 11/22

Cheyenne 11/22/13

This is Cheyenne, an 8-year-old spayed female chocolate Labrador cross. She is a bit nervous and unsure of new situations. She’s always lived on her property until her owner left her behind when she had to move. She would prefer an older couple with no kids and a quiet environment. Cheyenne feels very abandoned and is quite shy right now, but with time and patience she will learn to trust again. Do you have a room in your heart for this sweet girl? She could sure use a loving forever friend right now! ODH has not met this dog; we urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation.

Spenser chiweenie 1029

Spenser chiweenie 10/29/13

My name is Spenser. I am an experienced pup of 12 years.  They say I am a Dachshund/Chihuahua mix.  I just found out that my elderly owner is leaving her home and can’t take me with her. I would love a home where I can play and go on short walks.  I am even tempered and I get along with just about everyone.  I’m potty trained, but would prefer not to be left alone for great amounts of time as I love being around my people.  I don’t have to be adopted by an elderly person, but someone who is home more than not would be better for me…like maybe someone who works out of their home or works part time!  I have a great personality and like to play with my doggie toys.  I would do well in a home with a fenced yard. I’m in good health for my age. People say that I’m on the smaller side, but I would like to think I am a big pup.   They tell me I’m about 12-15 pounds. If you think I’d fit into your family, I’d love to meet you! Spenser is posted for his owner in the Spokane area.  ODH has not met this dog; we urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation.

Please contact the owner’s representative Monica at 509-995-1507 for more information about Spenser

Alex

Alex at GPI o4/13

A 10-year-old Greyhound who was returned from an adoption through no fault of his own,  Alex  is a goofy, easy going boy who loves everything and everyone. He loves the stuffies. Alex does have a tendency to jump when he is excited, so he might do best with older children. He is periodically a barker and digger, so he would do best in a home with a yard rather than an apartment. Alex needs a home with another dog and without cats.  Alex walks well on leash and makes many friends along the way on neighborhood walks.   He loves to sniff and enjoy the outdoors and would enjoy a home with a yard to call his own.  Alex needs a home with a good pack leader to make house rules and let him know he doesn’t have to try to lead himself.  He takes direction well and knows several commands, sits for treats and for his meals and will go to his bed and shake. He climbs stairs like a champ.   This fun-loving happy boy is very affectionate, a lover and a kisser with the most expressive eyes, giving you looks of love.   Alex is posted for Greyhound Pets Inc. ODH has not met this dog; we urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation.

For more information about Alex contact Marchet Anschellat (manschell@yahoo.com or 206-310-8038), or visit Greyhound Pets website.
