The “cookie twins” came to an ODH home at 12 years old, after their lifetime owner took them to a shelter. We knew that they were afraid of people and especially men, and that they had howled continuously when left home without people, but a very experienced and caring “dachshund family” wanted to give them a chance. We fixed their teeth and made them comfortable, and their ODH mom made tremendous efforts to help them adjust and relax. In the areas over which they had control they did their very best, trying hard to please and to be very good doggies. Their ODH mom feels blessed to have shared even these few weeks with these little souls. She told them she would be their forever Mom, and she was. She loved and held them all the way and was only sorry ‘forever’ was such a short time.
