Welcoming a new dog to your household?  Please take a few minutes to review our hints on how to introduce a new dog.

⇒ Why Adopt An Older Dog?      Some thoughts

PLEASE NOTE:

•  Adoption is different than Final Refuge at Old Dog Haven. An adoption means the dog becomes yours, you have ownership and are responsible for the dog’s care including veterinary expenses. Final Refuge means the dog is under ODH’s care, in an ODH foster home that will care for the dog for the rest of its life; with ODH coordinating and paying for vet care and medications.

•  Most of these dogs are in western Washington State.

This page has two categories of adoptable dogs:

  1. ODH adoptable dogs are already in Old Dog Haven foster homes, and are fit enough to be adopted out permanently (versus Final Refuge, where the dog remains at an ODH Final Refuge Foster Home).
  2. Dogs at shelters, other rescues, or with individual owners are looking for a new home. Most of the adoptable dogs listed on this page are in this category and are not in ODH’s care. The shelter, rescue or owner makes the decision about adoptions. ODH is only making referrals to help these dogs find homes.

ADOPTING ONE OF THESE DOGS:

For dogs in ODH homes:

  • Please complete the ‘Adopters Questionnaire‘ and send to our office so we know your particular interests and situation.
  • Each dog is different and will need a different kind of home.
  • ODH will not transport dogs outside the Western Washington area.  Potential adopters must meet the dog, once adoption application is approved.
  • A minimum tax-deductible donation of $95 is requested, more if you are able. (We have given our dogs very extensive vet care thanks to the generosity of our donors and your contribution will help the next old canine.)

For dogs posted for owners, shelters, or other rescue groups:

  • If posted for another group, please use the contact information provided in the profile.
  • If posted for the owner, please email placement@olddoghaven.org and we’ll put you in touch.

Interested in sponsoring a dog? Please check our Final Refuge (permanent foster) dogs.

If you adopt a dog featured on this page – please feel free to email a photo of your new friend with his or her new family to webmaster@olddoghaven.org for possible use here.

Henry 08/22/15

Henry 08/22/15

Henry

This little sun worshipper Chihuahua, Henry, is such a loveable little guy. Henry tips the scale at just over 5 pounds! His exact age isn’t known but vets put him at a healthy ~10 years old. He’s recently had a full dental so he has a pearly white smile. He’s nicely housetrained and confident with other dogs. He would probably do okay with a dog-tolerant cat. SPOT would like to see Henry in a primarily adult household with a family who has experience and passion for the smallest dogs. He would also be a wonderful companion for the person who wants to take their dog along as often as possible. He’s a happy little traveler!

Henry is posted for SPOT in the Burlington, Washington area. Applications are available at http://savingpetsoneatatime.org/dog-adoption-online-form_280.html.

Sadie 08/21/15

Sadie 08/21/15

Sadie

Pretty Sadie is a 10 year old, 65 pound lab mix. She has never lived with other dogs but has been fine with dogs off leash at the dog park. Sadie does not do well, however, with cats or young children. She would like you to believe she is a 65 pound lap dog! Aside from being very loving and cuddly, she is also a great dog to take on adventures; she has loved to go hiking and swimming. Sadie would truly enjoy a new home where she gets to go out every day for walks and have time for playing fetch. She knows quite a few verbal commands as well, she’s a very smart girl who is said to learn very quickly. Sadie can do stairs and currently stays alone for a work day. Sadie is in Seattle, Washington ready to go to her new home.

Brody 08/21/15

Brody 08/21/15

*Adoption Pending*

Brody

What a handsome boy Brody is. He’s a Collie/Shepherd mix who will be 10 years old in November. He is said to be “a lean 70 pounds”. Brody has spent most of his life living with another dog and he is appropriately social when meeting new dogs. Years ago he lived with cats but he’s not been observed around a cat for quite some time. Brody has been wonderful with gentle children. He looks like a large stuffed animal and since he loves to cuddle, he makes a great snuggler. Brody loves to have his thick, beautiful coat brushed. He has no trouble taking stairs and he is used to staying alone for a work day with the company of another dog. Brody does great walking on leash and appreciates a 30-minute walk every day. One thing Brody likes to do is run and if he’s not contained in a fenced yard he will run until caught! He’s described as being “warm with a sunny personality; a true lover of life”. Someone will be truly fortunate to welcome this great dog into their family. Brody is in Seattle, Washington.

Louie 08/15/15

Louie 08/15/15

Louie

Little Louie is a petite (9 pound) senior male Min Pin who was found abandoned at the Bangor Sub Base. Louie is a friendly, plucky guy who despite his age is full of pep and loves to go on walks and spend playtime outside. Louie is also happy to be by your side on the couch or nesting in his dog bed (even cat beds fit this tiny guy!). Like many old dogs, Louie has some worn and dirty teeth, cataracts that affect his vision a bit, and stiffness from age. Louie is looking for a loving, dedicated home who will give him lots of TLC, keep him comfortable and spoiled, and enjoy his personality.

Louie is currently at Kitsap Humane Society in Silverdale, Washington. For more info, call 360-692-6977 or email customerservice@kitsap-humane.org.

Harley 08/14/15

Harley 08/14/15

Harley

13-year-old Harley is a 38-pound Cocker Spaniel. Harley currently lives with both a cat and a dog. He does well with new dogs he meets – large and small – but sometimes gets a little “excited” (aka humpy) so something to be worked through. Harley has been fine with children who are respectful of him. He needs a home where he can get out to potty more often than he does now., he is crate trained but should not have to spend too long there. Harley can manage stairs; he has mild arthritis for which he takes a daily supplement. He does well on a leash and appreciates his walks, and he loves to go out and play in his fenced yard. He is deaf and has cataracts but we are told he can still see. Harley is SUCH a handsome boy who loves to be loved – with that great, wiggly rear-end that cockers are famous for. Someone will be really fortunate to welcome Harley to their family! Harley is in Bonney Lake, ready for his new start.

Cocoa loves to play fetch, and will play for as long as you will throw the ball! Cocoa also loves to go swimming! She is a snuggly gal, who loves pets and attention after a good play session. Lola pug PPR-FS081115

*Adoption Pending*

Lola

Attention all senior pug lovers, here’s a gem for you! This is 14-year-old Lola was left at the shelter by her owner, but don’t ask us why, she certainly didn’t deserve it. She is amazingly healthy for 14 and has no medical problems. She can still see and hear and gets around just fine. She of course has arthritis, but no more than what is to be expected. A home without stairs would be appreciated. Lola is potty trained, but she doesn’t like crates. She has gotten along wonderfully with the foster dogs in the home and the cats. Lola would love a home where her human is home with her more than not, but she does fine if left for 5 hours or so. This girl is one in a million who can’t wait to find her loving home.

Lola is located in Portland Oregon with Pacific Pug Rescue. To apply got to http://www.pacificpugrescue.org/adoption-process.html or for questions adoptions@pacificpugrescue.org.

Bruce 08/10/15

Bruce 08/10/15

*ADOPTED*

Bruce

Bruce is a 10 year old Bichon Frise who weighs 25 pounds. He currently lives with 2 large dogs and reportedly gets excited and a little “up close and personal” when meeting dogs his own size. He has never been observed around cats but he’s GREAT with gentle kids age 3 and up. Bruce can reportedly go for about 5-6 hours without needing a potty break. There was concern that he might have very early Cushing’s Disease but a recent test could not confirm that. Bruce does not require a lot of exercise but he does appreciate getting out for walks. It is thought that he may have a touch of arthritis in his back but he can still do stairs. He has had canine company recently during the work day and has been good at being a member of a “pack”. The thought is he could be OK living without canine companionship as he has in the past. He’s described as “a happy-go-lucky dog who doesn’t have a mean bone in his body”. Bruce greets his family members with great joy, he sure sounds like a real sweetheart! He is going to make someone a great companion who will make sure your lap is never cold. Bruce is in Oak Harbor, Washington.

Mbozi 08/09/15

Mbozi 08/09/15

Mbozi

Mbozi (aka Bozi) is an 8 year old Lab/Border Collie mix who weighs 47 pounds. It is not known if he has ever lived with dogs but he’s done fine with other dogs in off-leash meetings. Being on-leash in fact seems to be the only time he shows an issue with other dogs, so introductions between Bozi and other dogs should be done off leash and with supervision. Bozi currently lives with cats and that’s not working out well; he needs a home that is cat-free for the cat’s peace. He is said to be “super gentle” with small kids. Bozi know basic commands and does very well walking on leash. Perhaps some training will make Bozi OK with meeting other dogs while out on leash? He certainly sounds like he’s a smart dog. At 8 years old, Bozi is not really that old! He can do stairs, be left alone for a work day without needing a potty break for about 8 hours, and still likes to get out and walk but he will also chill out when you need him to. He is said to be an affectionate guy who LOVES people. Bozi is in Enumclaw, Washington looking for his forever home.

Lucy Marie 08/08/15

Lucy Marie 08/08/15

Lucy Marie

Lucy Marie is guessed to be that wonderful mix of lab and shepherd. She weighs 78 pounds and is approximately 13 years old. Lucy Marie is fine with other dogs – mostly aloof to those her size, excellent with small dogs and cats. She does well with children aged 10 years old and older. Lucy Marie is crate trained and she will “hold it” for as long as 6 hours if she has to but, because she’s an older dog, it’d be nice if she was given the opportunity to take more frequent potty breaks. As to be expected in a 13 year-old dog of her size, she does have some arthritis but she can still handle taking stairs – very slowly. As she gets older that could change, one must take these things into consideration. Her hearing and vision is not what it used to be but that doesn’t stop her from playing with a tennis ball from time to time like she used to in her younger days. She has been taught some simple hand signals for most commands. Lucy Marie has longer hair which is more shepherd-like so she needs weekly brushing; she sits patiently for that and seems to enjoy it. If you are looking for a loyal, loving companion who is friendly and non-demanding, then Lucy Marie is your girl. She is ready for new home and waiting for you in Edgewood, Washington.

Trigger 08/07/15

Trigger 08/07/15

Trigger

Trigger is an 8 year old German Shepherd. This stunning girl is 8 years old and she weighs 80 pounds. She was rescued from a neglectful situation where she was suffering both physically and emotionally. Trigger is visually disabled. Her rescuers took her in for treatment for eye ulcers; those have almost healed but she will need daily medication for her eyes most likely indefinitely due to abnormalities in them, and she can see very little. Currently Trigger lives with other dogs and cats, she does great with both. She has done well with gentle children of all ages. She does have some arthritis but she has learned to do stairs (with guidance and patience at first). Trigger is not fond of being alone, her rescuers are working on helping her to overcome this. In spite of not seeing well, she can retrieve a ball and she enjoys short walks. Trigger also loves her squeaky toys but belly rubs are her favorite! This is the kind of dog who can be most rewarding to give a home to. Beautiful Trigger will surely reward her adopter with the loyalty this breed is known for. Trigger is in Port Orchard, Washington.

Molly & Levi 08/05/15

Molly & Levi 08/05/15

Molly & Levi

9-year-old Molly and Levi are Cavalier King Charles Spaniel littermates. Molly weighs 23 pounds and Levi weighs 34 pounds. Molly is very affectionate and loves to climb on laps and gaze into your eyes. She’s very gentle and sweet. She follows people around from room to room, always wanting to be nearby. Levi is a big boy, but of course it’s all the more of him to love. He’s always cheerful and enthusiastic about what the day will bring. They love to go for walks and be outside. When it’s time to relax, they will climb on the couch to be nearby or on your lap. They also like to be in their crates, and Levi happily snoozes in his at night though Molly wants to be in the big bed with her people. They are perfectly housetrained. Levi has a little bit of stiffness in his hips, which is improving with weight loss and a joint supplement. They both had recent ear infections and signs of chronic infections, so regular cleanings are important for them. Molly has a low-grade luxated patella on one side but it does not interfere with her mobility or cause pain. They had dental cleanings while in rescue. Molly and Levi are closely bonded and want to stay together. They’re looking for a family with a lot of love to give and time to spend with them. They’re very outdoorsy and would love a fenced-in yard to hang out in and to be included in activities away from home, such as camping, road trips, and going to parks. They’re great with other dogs and kids and will really fit into most any household. This sweet pair of dogs is under the care of Cavalier Rescue USA. Their foster home is in Bothell, Washington.

Maisey 08/02/15

Maisey 08/02/15

Maisey

Maisey is believed to be a Gordon Setter mix. She weighs 48 pounds and is probably about 11 years old. Maisey is friendly with other dogs and cats, she enjoys pets from local school kids but it’s not known if she’s ever lived with young children. Maisey appreciates her daily walks. She can do stairs but seems to be showing a little arthritis lately; some joint support could be helpful. Maisey has been fine to stay alone for a workday. In the past she could go without a potty break for a full day but as she ages more frequent potty breaks may be necessary, as it is with almost all senior dogs. Maisey may have some hearing loss or should could just be “hearing selective”! Maisey does not like having her photo taken but she is almost always stopped on her walk by someone who remarks what a pretty girl she is. She is in Seattle, ready to make someone a wonderful companion.

Buster 08/02/15

Buster 08/02/15

Chloe

Chloe

Buster & Chloe are dachshunds who are both about 8 years old. Chloe weighs 12 pounds and Buster weighs a little over 15 pounds. This pair came together to Furbaby Rescue and it would be nice if they could find an adoptive home together. Sometimes they have “words” with each other – but hey, which siblings don’t?! If you’ve ever known a pair of bonded doxies, you know how sweet they can be together. Buster has been learning some verbal commands in his foster home. B oth dogs have discovered the blueberry bushes in the yard and they help themselves when a berry is in reach. They get along with other dogs just fine but should go to home where there are NO cats. As is often the case with this breed, both Chloe and Buster are champion snugglers/burrowers. Buster does a great job letting you know when someone has come to the front door, he loves squeaky toys and belly rubs. Chloe lost quite a lot of rotten teeth during her recent dental; that’s OK though, she’s got fresh breath now and is certainly going to be feeling better without those pesky teeth.

These sweet friends are a courtesy post for Furbaby Rescue and are in a foster home in Olympia, Washington. Please email elleny@comcast.net for more information about Buster & Chloe.

Latte 07/31/15

Latte 07/31/15

Latte

Latte is an absolutely sweet Beagle, maybe purebred, maybe a mix. She’s 9 years old and gets along well with other dogs and maybe even cats if they don’t run. She’s just a very easy, well-behaved sweet companion, quiet except to alert if someone knocks on the door. She’s potty trained and is
fine left free in the house. She would do best in a home where she doesn’t have to be left alone for a 40 hour work week, and probably would like the company of another dog and a fenced yard. Latte is good with all kinds of people – young and old. Latte is up to date on vaccinations, spayed and microchipped.

Latte is posted for CHEW Dog Rescue in Gig Harbor, call Carolyn at 253/265-3530 or see www.chewdogrescue.org.

Val 07/30/15

Val

Val is a sweet, sweet dog. Val weighs 17 pounds and is about 8 years old; she appears to be a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix. Valentine has crinkly ears from past chronic ear infections, her new family will need to keep an eye on that. This pretty girl really loves people, especially women. Oh, you’d better like doggie kisses as Val loves giving them! Val does very well with some dogs, cats are an unknown. Seattle Beagle Rescue does not recommend Val live with children as she will grab onto their pant leg.

Val is in a foster home in the Seattle area and is posted for Seattle Beagle Rescue. If you are interested in Val please email: Jayne@beaglerescue.org.

LumLum 07/24/15

LumLum 07/24/15

*Adoption Pending*

LumLum

LumLum is a wonderful character, an Australian Cattle Dog (blue heeler) 10 years old and a bit, um, well, let’s just say “portly” at the moment. He can best be described as a combination of Alfred Hitchcock, Wilford Brimley, and the Nero Wolfe character… with a little extra dose of cranky curmudgeon every now and then.

LumLum had a geriatric blood panel run shortly after arrival; everything is really good EXCEPT he is very slightly hypothyroid – that can be a major factor in his portliness, and also has an effect on mood, frequently causing irritability. Shelter staff think this may be the main cause of his occasional curmudgeonly moments – he can be all lovey dovey (and he is a MAJOR cuddle muffin), but now and then – usually after he has been receiving lots of loving from two people at once – he will decide to snap at one of the people, almost as if he is defending the attention he is getting from the other person! He has begun his thyroid medication and over the next months hopefully it will eliminate those occasional cranky outbursts entirely. He has never actually bitten anyone (and would be horrified with himself if he ever did), so it’s more like a cross between typical heeler nippiness and his other big skill as a FLYCATCHER. LumLum hasn’t mastered the art of play. One thing that does get him up and dancing around gleefully is the promise of a “treat” – that seems to be his favorite word. He is very good about sitting, and is easy on leash.

Are you an outwardly curmudgeonly but inwardly cream-puffy sort of person? You may be exactly what LumLum is hoping to find! He likes slow walks with interesting smells and a securely fenced yard of his own that he can defend from squirrels and other intruders, would prefer to be the only pet but may be able to share with the right female dog, and NO CATS for LumLum, please! This funny, quirky, smart boy would love to sit on the deck and watch the sunset with you, or share your favorite sports season in front of the TV. Even with his extra weight (he is over 60 pounds right now, and ideally should be more like 45!), he doesn’t seem to have any real issues with arthritis. He should be able to manage a moderate number of stairs and, as his new thyroid meds kick in, he should start taking off some of that extra weight, helping to keep his joints supple longer.

LumLum will do best in an adult home, with someone who is experienced in dog communication and heeler mentality in particular. He is housetrained, and doesn’t even soil his kennel during most of the 12 hour overnight periods. He is patient and non-destructive when left alone, and is overall a pretty easy keeper.
LumLum is posted for the Forget-Me-Not shelter in Republic WA who offer a 30-day money-back trial adoption period. Can’t come to Republic? Don’t let that stop you! They have monthly transports to both the Seattle area and Spokane, delivering adopted pets to their new owners.

Bree 07/15/15

Bree 07/15/15

Bree

Meet Bree. Bree is a beautiful, 9-year old Chocolate Lab mix who has a lot of love to give to her people. She’s a very smart dog who loves to do training…and then, she’ll happily lay around with her favorite stuffed squeaky toys. Bree will need an experienced, committed adopter that is willing to do continuing training to be successful. She’s been working with Homeward Pet’s Dog Behavior Team, where she gets daily training sessions to help her overcome her anxiety, focus her attention, and be more at ease with meeting new people. Bree has made tremendous progress, and is a favorite of all of our training team, but will need to continue her training sessions in her new home. She is also on anti-anxiety medication. Bree would do best in a quieter, adult-only household, with someone home most of the time. She does fine with other dogs (though she’s not a big-time player), but would prefer a cat-free home. If you’re willing and able to help a good dog become a great dog, go meet Bree anytime during adoption hours. If you’d like to pursue adoption, the shelter will set up a meeting with the Behavior Team Coordinator to learn more about Bree’s behavior and her current training plan. To help ensure a successful adoption, it will include required personal training sessions with Dr. Sung of All Creatures Behavior Counseling.

Bree is posted for Homeward Pet Adoption Center in Woodinville WA, please contact 425-488-4444 or info@homewardpet.org.

Thelma & Louise 07/15/15

Thelma & Louise 07/15/15

Thelma and Louise

Thelma and Louise are quite the pair. They came to Pasado’s Safe Haven totally and completely in love with each other. They cry if they are separated and are relaxed and happy when they are in each other’s company. These two sweet girls are both seniors at around 12 years old. They have some issues that seniors usually have like bladder control and benign skin growths. They would do very well in a home where they can have people around them most of the day, Louise is especially people-oriented and will go where ever the people are! Thelma is more independent and will roam around and explore. They are both very friendly and do well with other dogs and with cats. They would make fantastic companions and will never fail to make you laugh with their sweet, droopy faces and big personalities.

If you would like to learn more about adopting the wonderful girls, Thelma & Louise, go to PasadoSafeHaven.org/Adopt and fill out an adoption questionnaire, email adoption@pasadosafehaven.org, or call their Adoption Coordinator, at (360) 793-9393 x110.

Dory 06/16/15

Dory 06/16/15

Dory

Hi! My name is Dory, kind of like Dora The Explorer, but the Princess version minus The Explorer! OK, OK, let’s just make it Dory the Princess – yes indeed, that is a lot easier for people to understand!

I am a very, very sweet little princess. I like girly things like bows and ribbons! I like my baths and my trips to the beauty parlor! I like to look pretty and smell like the finest perfume! I’m 8 years old, 14 pounds, and a very typical little Shih Tzu. I’m not crazy about exercise, but I will go with you wherever you please! I am not very particular about where I sleep either. I can sleep either in your bed or in my own Princess bed on the floor! I am very, very polite with other dogs and I prefer to not cause a problem anywhere! I tend to overeat if food is left out for me so you will need to make sure that my meals are portion controlled! My foster Mommy tells me that I am so much like her. If you are crazy for little Princess Shih Tzus, please let Furbaby Rescue know right away! I can’t wait to meet you!

Dante & Keats 05/29/15

Dante & Keats 05/29/15

Dante and Keats

Italian Greyhound brothers, Dante and Keats, aka The Literary Duo, have been wonderful little fellows in their foster home. Dante is the rough-and-tumble of the two. He’s a stocky boy and chock full of personality, his eyes are bright and happy. He enjoys squeaky tennis balls/stuffies and his tiny Kong. He loves evening playtime so he can pounce on your hand or toss the squeaky ball at you to throw. Dante has a dental and a benign lump taken off his leg; he’s on Zonisamide twice a day for seizures and has not had a seizure since arriving in his foster home.

Keats is the sensitive soul of the two. His eyes are expressive. He has only one remaining tooth but that doesn’t keep this boy from devouring food with gusto or playing with toys. He may not win the tug-of-war, but he gives Dante a good run for his doggie biscuit. Keats is a stealth attacker of toys, happily leaping on stuffies, barking at the squeaky ball.

These little guys get along with the other IG’s in their foster home and love to burrow under blankets. They thrive on human attention, voice and touch, are well socialized and crate-trained. Dante and Keats have been bonded brothers for almost 11 years. It would be best for them that this bond be kept intact and they be adopted together; after all they are The Literary Duo.

Dante & Keats are posted for the Italian Greyhound Rescue Foundation and are being fostered in the Spokane area. Washington/Oregon residents who want to begin the process to adopt an IGCA Rescue dog should write to igrfadopt@gmail.com to learn about the IGCA adoption process and receive an application. Out-of-the-area applicants are asked to apply to and work with us through their local IGCA Rep.

Sasha 05/30/15

Sasha

Lovely Sasha is 12 years old and looks to be a cocker/beagle mix – AKA a “Bocker”. Sasha weighs about 45 pounds; a little weight loss would more than likely be beneficial for her. She has an interesting history as she survived distemper as a puppy and she came to the United States all the way from Vietnam in 2009. Sasha is described as being “very sweet and ever cheerful, engaging with both people and dogs”. She has a fondness for little dogs and she has only been observed around teenage kids. Sasha’s experience with a cat didn’t go well because the cat didn’t like her. She is deaf, that is presumed to be because of her bout with distemper. Sasha takes an inexpensive daily thyroid medication, common for many senior dogs. She is used to being alone for long hours; the hope is she can find a home where someone is around more often as she ages. As to be expected she is slow on stairs so perhaps a home where there aren’t too many to climb would be kinder as she does have some arthritis. Sasha has some spunk in her and she has been known to raid the garbage can or someone’s purse if it’s left out for her to do so – a trait you’d expect both from a cocker spaniel and a beagle! She does very well on a leash and enjoys getting out for walks and even trips to the dog park. Our experience with this breed mix has only been positive, we think someone will be really lucky to welcome Sasha into their life. Sasha is in Seattle, hoping for her new home soon.

Aurora 05/06/15

Aurora 05/06/15

Aurora

Beautiful, sweet Aurora is still looking for her FOREVER home. Aurora is loveable 8 year old pit bull mix, who has sadly been bounced around for a couple of years. She is a little timid at first but very respectful towards other dogs. She doesn’t mind larger dogs that aren’t real active but small dogs annoy her. Aurora does great with cats as well! She is a tad overweight, as you can tell from her picture. She goes up and down the stairs a little slowly but just fine. She is potty trained and great with kids as long as they are polite to her. Aurora deserves to live her final years in the comforts of her very own home!

Aurora is posted for Helping Hands Rescue and is in Clarkston, Washington (close to Lewiston, Idaho). Please email pollybenson@yahoo.com for more information or see www.helpinghandsrescue.com.

Tank 04/19/15

Hank 04/19/15

Hank

Meet Hank, a wonderful Golden Retriever/Lab mix, 8 years old, full of energy and very sweet. He loves people and especially would like to be an only dog. He does love to play with four-legged friends (unless you are a cat, he will then get very excited and chase). Hank is currently 98 pounds so may be too big for very young children. He is very gentle, loves car rides and going on adventures. He is looking for a home that will love him forever.

Hank is posted for WAG and is fostered in Sequim, Washington. Please email Barb at Sequimgal@gmail.com for an application.

Angel 04/18/15

Angel

Angel is a 9-year-old pit mix that loves to hang out with her people. She is good with most other dogs, but can be dog-selective so proper introductions are important. She gets along with kids and people and loves to lounge in the sun. She does well in a crate, or just hanging out on the couch. Angel can do stairs and can make it an 8-hour day without needing to potty. Angel is fostered in Vaughn, Washington with meets scheduled in Tacoma.

Lady

Lady

Lady is an 11-year-old pit/shar pei mix. She came into rescue after her owner passed away and is looking for a wonderful home to live out the rest of her days. She is low maintenance, all she needs in life is a good bone and a good nap. She gets along with other dogs and is currently fostered with cats. She would probably do best with older, respectful children. She is crate trained but is currently left loose in the house during the day and doesn’t cause any trouble. Lady can do stairs, she just needs a little extra time, and can go an 8-hour day without needing to potty. Lady is fostered in Tacoma, Washington.

Duchess 04/16/15

Duchess 04/16/15

Duchess

Duchess is a beautiful white German Shepherd. She is 10 years old and she weighs 83 pounds. Duchess has been through heartache and a lot of change in the past few months. Since coming into rescue however she has thrived and she is now ready for a committed forever family. Her foster family say that Duchess is both “strong and smart, eager to please and thrives on routine”. Duchess needs a home with no other dogs or cats. She would, however, love a home with children who will be kind and appreciate her, as she loves kids. Duchess needs a home without stairs and one with a fenced yard where she is not left alone for hours at a time. Duchess had a very traumatic experience in a crate so she does not like them but she does love belly rubs and carrots! It is hoped that with time and patience, Duchess will feel more secure and she will be able to manage being left alone. She is described as being “a wonderful dog who is loving and loyal”.

Duchess is posted for Rebecca’s Rainbow, and is in Auburn, Washington. Contact michelehayward@rebeccasrainbow.org for more information.

Casey & Carrie

Casey & Carrie

Casey & Carrie 03/18/15

*ADOPTED*

Casey & Carrie

Casey & Carrie are 8-year-old littermates who are said to be a mix of Lab/German Shepherd/Boxer. Whatever their mix is, it is unique and very striking! Casey is a big boy, weighing in at 92 pounds. Carrie is 67 pounds. Carrie and Casey have lived with other dogs and are reportedly appropriately social when meeting new dogs. They have not ever lived with or been observed around cats. The pair have always spent their days outside but have been brought in at night to sleep with their family’s children or in the family home. Ideally they will be able to be inside during the day if they so desire in their new home. Both dogs can do stairs and since they are what we consider to be “young seniors” they would more than likely enjoy getting out for walks and exercise on a regular basis. Carrie has been known to jump a 4 foot fence so a taller fence is a must for her safety. Casey is said to be a very happy dog who is always delighted to see people and is described as “a goofball”. Carrie is described as “very smart and quiet”; she loves receiving attention. The hope is that Carrie and Casey can remain together as they have always been. They are currently in Snohomish, ready for their forever home.

Gracie 12/26/14

Gracie 12/26/14

Gracie

Gracie is an almost 9 year old chihuahua. She weighs 13 pounds (needs to lose a couple more…) and she was recently diagnosed with diabetes. Gracie is a goofy little sweetheart of a dog! She LOVES to be scratched and petted, but she does NOT enjoy sitting on your lap. Gracie is mostly house trained and used to sleeping in a crate with a pee pad at night. She walks very well on a leash when she is leashed up — though she rarely needs a leash when taken outside. Gracie does not really enjoy other dogs or cats, but she tolerates them very well as long as they don’t try to mess with her too much. Gracie would likely do well with older kids that are respectful of dogs and let them have their space.

Gracie is on twice a day insulin which requires a small injection. With a little distraction, the injection is easily done and she can continue her busy day of napping, rolling around in her bed, and waiting for the treat bag to crinkle so she can beg for treats! Gracie is a really great little dog who deserves her own people to dote on her, sing her songs about how cute she is, and scratch her little butt multiple times a day!

KD 11/06/14

KD

KD is a very affectionate, polite old soul, about 11 years. She is eager to greet you and be by your side and she is very loyal to those she likes. KD is an independent girl who would love a calm home without other dogs or children. She does not make friends with other pets, so she would do best with just your love. She does know some commands and she is well behaved in the presence of her human. KD is content with a comfy bed to herself, so she can rest up for outings. She loves long walks!! She walks well on lead and is happy with any outing, car rides included. KD is also presumed housebroken. She does have some minor medical issues including mild arthritis which does not seem to bother her. She also has a mass in her mouth which needs monitoring. She has been at the shelter since August and is getting very stressed in the kennels. This sweet girl needs a calm and comfy forever home.

Butkus & Abby 03/28/14

Butkus & Abby 03/28/14

Butkus and Abby

Butkus (Buck) and Abby are a wonderful pair of senior Boxers who are completely bonded to each other. Abby is most definitely in charge and Buck happily let’s her run the show. He is such a laid-back type of guy he routinely lets her sit right down on top of him! At 11 years old Buck runs and plays like a puppy and boy can he jump! He has a few creaky joints, but is otherwise in perfect health. The vet thinks it’s possible he has a little bit of Lab mixed in with all his Boxer goodness, which would explain his long legs and could give him some additional longevity. He is a big boy at 90 pounds, but he plays with the very young puppy in his foster home so very gently. He lets that little rascal climb all over him, bite his tail and even try to ride him like a pony, and Buck just gives a small sigh as if to say, “look what I have to put up with!”

Abby is a very young 9 years old with a super sweet temperament. She just wants to be loved on and will wiggle her way into the middle of anyone else getting some attention. She can hear petting going on two rooms away! She does love to be outside and exploring but her favorite thing to do is nap next to her people and Buck.

They absolutely LOVE going in the car! They will race for the door when the magic words “let’s go” are said. They can stay alone in the car with no issues other than a possible move into the front for a better view. Abby and Buck also love walks, but Buck is a major puller. Abby does beautifully on leash and so does Buck when in the right equipment. Neither Buck nor Abby show any kind of aggression about anything. They get along with all sizes of other dogs with proper introductions; however, they would do best in a home without cats. They are superb with children, no jumping up or pushing over. They can be left alone in the home without getting into anything, so crating is not necessary as long as they have each other. They will bark an alert if they hear someone at the door and will head to the fence line when the neighbor’s dog barks, but both stop barking almost immediately. These two amazing dogs would be perfect companions for any family and will most certainly bring such joy and loving that you will just not believe! Abby and Buck are being fostered in Kingston, Washington. This pair is posted for Northwest Boxer Rescue.

Twinkie

Twinkie

Twinkie

I’m Twinkie, a Chihuahua of about 9 years. When I arrived into rescue it was quickly learned that I was easy to care for but that I needed to be monitored so I didn’t have too many treats and get too “round” which is a nice way of saying “fat”. *sigh* Oh, the problems we women have in our middle years and battling weight gain. I learned that car rides and walks were pretty neat things to do so that’s been great exercise. I also have nice ways of letting you know that I need to go out and do my business. Then, I needed to have a bladder stone removed and now I’m a new dog! Not only that, people were awesome and sent in contributions for my vet bill which was close to $1,500. Thank you for believing I was worth it!

I should mention that I probably would do best being the only dog in the house and should avoid small kids. If you want the rest of my resume, please contact my foster mom who can answer any other questions you may have.

ODH has not met this dog; we urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation.

Twinkie is posted for Furbaby Rescue; she is fostered in Bellingham. For an application, please email Sandra at psbark@wavecable.com.
