Her long graceful stride carried Allie out to the shelter’s off-leash play area where she immediately found the ball. The beautiful, thin tricolor border collie (with sighthound?) mix was always ready to play and eat.

Allie bounded across our tree- and shrub-edged pastures constantly  looking for a toy and retrieving dozens of balls, kongs and Cuz squeakers left by previous generations of toy lovers.

But also lurking was an undetected splenic tumor that suddenly began
bleeding.

The pile of retrieved toys awaits the next ball hound near the front door.
