From her ODH mom:
Frankie, who looks like a dalmation/retriever mix, came to us from the shelter looking pretty worn out. She had an awful sore on her tail (which turned out to be an injury which dislocated the tail completely), and a terrible respiratory infection from the shelter. Still, even though she felt awful she was immediately a perfect fit for our home. She is about the sweetest dog I have ever encountered.

We were very concerned for her for her first few weeks as she had no appetite and seemed very depressed. I exchanged many emails with Judith asking for advice on how to deal with my poor sweet charge. The only food I could get her to eat for 2 weeks was graham crackers and baked chicken or ritz crackers. We did think that her nose being stuffed could have been a factor, but it didn’t make me feel any better that I couldn’t get her to eat. She now has a very healthy appetite and dances about telling me when it is time for breakfast or dinner.

We started bringing Frankie on walks almost immediately. Now that she’s had her dental and many xrays of all her arthritic and damaged joints, the combination of meds and supplements and regular exercise went to work. Her gait has improved so greatly it seems like she is a completely different dog! She has elbow dysplasia, so her walk isn’t all that gorgeous. But, she absolutely loves getting out and looking for squirrels. I believe she may be part pointer because she has hunting in her blood. She stands still – nose twitching – surveying the entire scene, often finding a squirrel that no else can spot. She is also of course very interested in tummy rubs, hugs, being brushed and helping with yard work. Before the rains came she also showed off her sun bathing skills. I really hit the jackpot with this girl! I am so thankful for Old Dog Haven leaving her in my care.
