Sweet Gemma is a lovely blend of shepherd and lab. She is 10 years old and weighs 70 pounds. Gemma’s lifelong family is sadly changing and because of that, she needs to find an adoptive home soon.

Gemma has been a terrific family dog, living with kids and cuddling with her family’s cats. She can be a little more choosy when it comes to dogs. Gemma had a small dog buddy that was a female chiweenie. That friend has passed away but we are told Gemma and that small dog did well together for 8 years. This leads us to believe Gemma could live with other dogs, perhaps smaller than Gemma that are about her age. Gemma’s adopter should be prepared to do proper introductions with slow integrations-as we all must do when introducing a new canine family member!

Gemma is a good girl inside her home, managing time in her house just fine when her humans have to leave. With time to adapt to her new life, Gemma is going to make a great addition to a home. She can manage quite a while between potty breaks at this time. Gemma can still manage stairs but that could change with age. She is reportedly not much of a barker.

Being the good-sized girl that she is, whoever is holding her leash on walks needs to know how to manage her size and strength. We are told she does “well” while on leash but she’s not always happy to see other dogs that she doesn’t know when she’s out and about. It sounds like Gemma could use some work on her leash skills. This could be a fun bonding project!

Gemma is a smart dog who sits on command. She is a loving dog who enjoys being near her family. With time and love, Gemma is going to make her next family feel lucky to have her!

Gemma is located in Oak Harbor, WA. For contact information please email: referrals@olddoghaven.org

This is a courtesy post. Gemma is not an Old Dog Haven dog. We urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation.
