11-year-old Hilda is a Treeing Walker Coonhound who weighs 56.5 pounds. What a pretty dog! This nice girl is looking for a new family. She has done well with other dogs and kind children. Hilda has not lived with cats and one would guess she may want to chase a cat, given her breed.

Hilda is vocal. She is not a dog who could live in an apartment setting or anywhere where someone may not appreciate her lovely baying. Hilda is a great watch dog, letting her people know when there is a deer, coyote or anything out of the ordinary around. Currently Hilda has a one acre yard with a securely fenced yard to roam and patrol. She may not need this in her next home but she definitely needs daily exercise and time to explore. Hilda should have a home with a securely fenced yard.

At this time Hilda spends her time between the fenced yard and the mudroom. She is alone much of the time so it would be wonderful if she could find an adoptive home where she is allowed inside the house, around her people. We are told Hilda has been a marker which is why she does not have access to the house where there is carpet. Hilda needs a patient adopter to work on her potty habits. It could be that when she reaches a home where there is more time for her, she would do better. If given the chance Hilda will counter surf or steal food right out of a child’s hand. This is certainly not unusual for a dog who enjoys food!

Hilda would love a home with someone who will allow her to curl up with them on the couch. We are told she can be a wonderful companion dog. Hilda loves life and gets excited about meeting new people and other dogs. She can get excited while out on walks so one must be able to manage her size and strength. Hilda really wants to please her humans; she knows basic voice commands. This smart girl loves treats so what a great way to bond with her person-training and connecting during time spent together one on one!

As we always recommend, one should be able and willing to afford veterinary care and good quality dog food. Her wonderful hound ears make her prone to ear infections; she needs regular cleaning and a diet that will help her maintain comfortable, itch free skin.

We can imagine how happy and loving Hilda will be to her adopter, spending more time indoors and around her humans. She sounds like a very sweet, active, fun dog!
