From her Final Refuge family: Lucy came to us at ten years old with severe allergies and chronic ear and skin issues. Her allergies had caused inflammation and infections in her ears so badly it had blown out both of her eardrums, which was not only incredibly painful, but also left little Lucy completely deaf. She looked like a senior dog, and she would just sit there and shake (due to the infection).
Old Dog Haven sent Lucy to an allergy specialist who recommended surgically removing both of her ear canals (Bilateral TECA). After this delicate procedure, done by a surgical specialist and made possible by the Maranda Fund, and a course of antibiotics, Lucy became a completely different dog. She loves running around outside, exploring new places, and meeting (and barking at) new people.
Shortly after she recovered, we were at the dog park and someone asked how old our “puppy” was. No one could believe she was ten.
This sweet little girl has been a big part of our lives for just about two years, and she is still so exuberant and energenetic that we forget she is now 12 years old.
