Maggie
Loves attention and soft beds!
Miss Maggie is a 9 or 10 year old senior who’s had a tough life. She was rescued from the street, looking more like a chupacabra than a dog! Maggie had a horrible case of demodectic mange and was heartworm positive, and had lameness in her right rear leg. The rescue that took her in treated her mange, her heartworm, spayed her, and her leg (a fracture of the knee joint) was amputated, since a knee replacement surgery wasn’t financially feasible.
Maggie was rehomed in early 2021 to a family with small children. She loves the kiddos, but recently has had less patience with the little ones, who don’t respect her boundaries. As a 9 or 10 year old tripod, she’s likely arthritic and a little protective of her space, trying to keep the littles from laying on her and causing pain. Her adopters contacted the original rescue to return her, and they in turn were put in contact with Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue. She is now in a loving foster home where she’s done beautifully with the two dogs, the cat, and the two boys (who are respectful of her space).
Maggie went to the vet for a checkup this week and she was started on some anti-inflammatory pain medications and some joint supplements. The doctor also recommends that she loses a little weight. At this time Maggie weighs 77 pounds; the vet suggested she lose 5 pounds or so. This will help with her mobility. She was a model patient for the vet and is a good girl for her foster home.
Maggie is looking for a home without small children. She does well with older, respectful kids, and is good with other dogs too. We were told by her first rescue that she’s not good with cats, but there haven’t been any issues with the foster home’s cat.
This girl is healthy and has plenty of life to live yet. She would love a home where she can get lots of attention from her people, maybe a dog friend or two, and plenty of soft beds to sleep on. Of course her adopter should be willing and able to keep up on her veterinary care and continue her pain management medications and supplements. Maggie doesn’t ask much, and has so much love to give in return.
Maggie is posted for Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue. She is being fostered in Poulsbo, WA. Apply to adopt this sweet senior girl: https://www.spdrdogs.org/adoptionform/
