“Hi there! My name is Makana which means a gift or reward. I would like to think someone could feel I am their gift or reward! I am a young senior who is only 8 years old. My family says I am a “peekapoo” which is a mixed breed of pekingese and poodle.I weigh 12 pounds which is a good size for a dog-not too big, not too small.

“I get along well with the other dog in my home, he is a much bigger dog. I behave myself when I meet new dogs. I have never lived with cats. My person says I could be OK with them but no one can know until I meet them! I can’t make any promises and I certainly won’t be able to go back to my home if I’m adopted and I don’t like a cat in my adoptive home. I have been very good with gentle children. I would love a home where I can receive more attention so if you have a family who would love me, I am ready to join you!

“Right now I spend my time in my crate when needed. I sleep in my crate and sometimes when my family leaves the house, I am put in my crate. I can manage a few hours between potty breaks. While I am good to be left (with my big dog friend here), I do bark when everyone comes home. It’s exciting, I am happy to see everyone! Once I get to know my new family I bet I’ll bark in excitement upon their return too. This means if you have neighbors who won’t appreciate my happy barks, we probably won’t be a good match.

“I hope my new people will want to take me on walks because I love them! I used to getting out for about an hour a day for a walk. I behave myself when I’m on leash so we can really enjoy the time. Walks are fun and so good for everyone!

“At this time in my life, I like to think of myself as being more middle-aged. I can take stairs without issue and my people will tell you I have no arthritis. I have not had a full senior check up yet-with labs and exam though I’m up to date on my vaccines. My adopter will need to be able to afford my lifelong care so that hopefully, I can stick around for a long time to come! As you can see, I will also need regular grooming. If you are able to commit to my care for the rest of my days, I won’t make you sorry you did! I am a cuddly, sweet girl who is ready to meet my new people!”
