Maynard is a sweet old hound dog! He came to the Olympic Peninsula Humane Society after being found as a stray (it looks like he chewed his way off a rope), so nothing is really known about his history. Staff believes he is about 12 yrs old, and a blue tick hound mix. Maynard is a large fella, and right now he’s a tad overweight because he LOVES treats! He will happily and quickly sit for a treat, then take it like a gentleman. At the shelter Maynard is on weight management food, but it’s kinda hard to stay on a diet at the shelter… He really needs a home to structure his feeding and offer him appropriate treats. Maynard arrived in pretty rough shape (his hind end was hairless and eyes were goopy). But other than some age related changes, he’s improving into pretty good condition. His teeth look excellent, he’s bright and active, and he very much enjoys going for walks! With more time we think most of his hair will grow back, but maybe not all of it. When he’s not out walking and enjoying the sights and smells, Maynard REALLY enjoys napping on our dog couch. He spends a little bit of time every day in our socialization room where he can enjoy the comforts of the couch, and watch a movie. Maynard is not a loud barker like some hounds can be. He’s actually quite quiet and calm. It seems he’d be just find hanging out with other large dogs, but we don’t know about small dogs or cats. Maynard really needs to find a good retirement home!

Maynard is posted for the Olympic Humane Society in Port Angeles, WA.

This is not an ODH dog; we urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation.
