Mooshka (and her friends)) were brought to the Forget-Me-Not shelter after being impounded by the sheriff; they were apparently left chained out in their yard when their family packed up and moved away. From old veterinarian records, Mooshka  is about 8 1/2 years old now. She arrived with severe ear infections in both ears, which have been treated and will merit continued vigilance as they may occur again in the future (though regular ear cleaning should help with that). Mooshka’s senior blood panel looks great – no areas of concern – and she is happy and frisky and ready for her new family!

Mooshka is a somewhat dominant girl, but is generally friendly toward the other dogs she has met. She was indifferent to the cats during her cat test, but would likely chase cats that run. She should be able to learn to be friends with “her” cats that are in her family.

Although she has apparently always lived primarily outside, she appears to be housetrained and does not soil her shelter kennel. She enjoys time in the great outdoors, but (like most husky mixes) needs a fenced yard and shouldn’t be left outside unsupervised for long, lest she find a way to wander off and explore the world. She is very affectionate and likes being brushed and cuddled. She doesn’t seem to understand play yet, but may be able to pick up the basics from her new family – worth a try! Mooshka weighs almost 50 pounds, and could put on another pound or two.

She enjoys treats, and still does at least a few steps well.  She is active and doesn’t show any signs of arthritis pain. She doesn’t like to come inside after playtime, because she knows it is time to go back into her kennel and that is her least favorite part of shelter life.  She is a pretty easy keeper, who is very grateful for every kindness and comfort. Mooshka will be a wonderful companion for pretty much anyone, from a single senior to a big, boisterous family… all she wants is your time and your love.

Mooshka is posted for the Forget-Me-Not shelter in Republic, Washington who offer a 30-day money-back trial adoption period. Can’t come to Republic? Don’t let that stop you! They have monthly transports to both the Seattle area and Spokane, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. Please contact the shelter for more information.

ODH has not met this dog; we urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation./
