Oliver is a 9 year old, Miniature Australian Shepherd who weighs 40 pounds. Oliver is ready for an adoptive home with people who are familiar with his breed. Oliver needs activity and structure. In return, Oliver will reward you with his loyalty and dedication.

Oliver has lived with other dogs and has been aloof until he’s gotten to know them better. Oliver has lived with cats as well. A home with dog-savvy cats would be best for Oliver. Because Oliver can become anxious with young children and the energy they have, he needs a home without them.

According to Oliver’s people, he was once a farm dog. He enjoys room to roam and the belief is that he would be happier with more outside time, space to explore but in a safe environment (fenced) so that he would not wander off. Oliver does bark and for this reason, he should not have a home where his barking will be an issue.

When left alone, Oliver stays well in his crate. If he’s not crated he will get into trouble. He will bark some but once he settles down, he will be fine in his crate until his humans return. Oliver has become accustomed to a home where people work from home. He appreciates the company of his humans and the hope is that he will find a new home with someone who is around often.

A natural athlete, Oliver craves exercise. He’s a young senior who runs very fast, jumps and LOVES to play ball. Oliver is obsessed with tennis balls, so much so that he will chase them until he can no longer stand. For this reason, tennis ball time needs to be monitored and the balls put away where Oliver can’t see them. With his focus and determination, he could be a candidate for agility or herding activity. Oliver does pull while on leash so traditional walks could prove difficult. One will enjoy time with Oliver outside, playing fetch, watching him run around and once he recognizes who his new family and humans are, we are told he does well off leash and stays with his humans. Again-we would not want someone to allow him off leash while he is “new”, too many dogs become lost or take off looking for their former owner.

Oliver sounds like he could be a very fun dog! He definitely needs a home with someone who will appreciate him and understand a working dog mentality. Oliver is a good boy who deserves a very good, committed adoptive home.
