Meet Skooter! This 8 year old Australian Shepherd is a loving boy with loads of energy. He weighs 50 pounds. Skooter is cuddler. If given the chance he’ll rest his head on your chest. He has not lived with cats but has done well with gentle children aged 6 and over.

Skooter has had one other dog in his life that he’s accepted. He has not done well with other dogs.
The hope was that he and his best friend would be adopted together. But since that hasn’t happened and time is running out to find that home, Skooter’s best chance looks to be being adopted as an only dog, to someone who is looking for one dog only. If Skooter and his friend are surrendered to a shelter it could take a very long time to find a home for them or they could be adopted out separately anyway.

We are told that Skooter has had anxiety when left alone. He has lost so much in his lifetime, both of his owner passed away in less than 2 years. Certainly he will need an adopter who will understand this, show him compassion and give him time to settle into his new life.

As a young senior Skooter could be a great exercise buddy. He needs some leash training as he will pull in his excitement. This breed is known as being intelligent and trainable! Skooter loves to run and play. Lots of time exercising could help tire him out and calm him when he would normally be worried.

Skooter has always lived in a house with a dog door to go out as he needed. A fenced yard would be great for him. However, if you are home much of the time and can take him out on leash as often as he needs, this could work as he can manage quite a while at this time between potty breaks. Skooter must be given time to learn his human leaving the house is OK.

Skooter deserves a chance! He sounds like a very nice dog who could make a terrific companion with time and compassion.

Skooter is located in Milton, WA. For contact information please email: referrals@olddoghaven.org

This is a courtesy post. Skooter is not an Old Dog Haven dog. We urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation.
