“Hi. My name is Stevie. My humans say I am about 8 years old. I weigh 90 pounds. Yep!  I’m a big boy. They say I am a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix. I am looking for a home without cats or kids. I have never lived with other dogs but I do well at doggy daycare. This is more than likely because my humans aren’t there. I don’t appreciate other dogs getting close and personal with my humans! I am a protective fellow when it comes to my people. It is in my nature as a Ridgeback. Because of this I need a home with someone who knows and understands dogs and our behaviors. I want to be a good boy! I need someone who won’t put me in situations that could cause me to get into trouble.

“At this time I spend a lot of time outside. I’d like to have a home where I can come and go as I please into a securely fenced yard. Having some room to sniff around and stretch my legs would be great! I will bark at dogs walking by the house. This is to let them know this is my yard and to keep intruders away. When my people have let me stay inside while they are gone I have had great house manners, only having an accident twice in the six years they have had me! I think that is pretty good. Being inside a home where it’s nice and cozy is really nice. I don’t have a problem with being alone. Of course if I had my choice, I’d love it if my people are around often!

“I love to play but sometimes I overdo it. That causes me to ache. My people don’t give me medicine for it all of the time but I think it would help to be given my medicine and a joint support supplement  on a daily basis to help my aches. They say it’s arthritis and all dogs get it at one time or another. I just got it a little early because I’m a big dog. I’m hoping my new people will take me to the vet and get me started on something to help. With that I could feel so much better! Walks and playtime could be so much more enjoyable. I do not do stairs on a regular basis in my current home and I’d hope in my new home I won’t have to do them to get where I need to go.

“I am a nice boy who loves people. Everyone that meets me, likes me. I love to sit by you and hold your hand. Cuddling and being close to my person is the best thing ever! I will talk to you in my own funny way. I will admit that I have gotten cranky when being touched on my belly in a way that bothered it. My people had me thoroughly checked out by the vet after I got mad at them and the vet couldn’t find anything wrong with me. My people will tell you all about that and share all the vetting they have done for me.  Because of my size and strength though, it is very important that I find just the right home. I don’t want anyone to think I am “bad”, just know I have triggers that upset me. If we can avoid those triggers, we can live happily ever after!”
