Hans August
Handsome family man
We don’t have to tell you that Hans August is a handsome boy, everyone can see it! Hans is an 8.5-year-old dark chocolate Labrador mix who weighs 80 pounds.
Through no fault of his own, Hans is about to lose his long-time family. He was adopted as a puppy from a shelter. Hans has been a loyal family member who now needs another family to devote himself to.
Hans has lived with other dogs with no problem. As many dogs will, Hans can get excited when he meets a new dog. Proper introductions between dogs are the best way to start off the beginning of a friendship and coexistence between dogs. We are told that Hans has ignored the cats he lived with. He has been excellent around children and could make a wonderful addition to a family with kids who are old enough to know better than to climb upon or pull on him.
At his age, Hans is what we consider to be a young senior. He can climb stairs now but someday he may not be able to, one should keep that in mind when adopting any large breed dog. Hans is able to wait for a potty break for a few hours-another trait of a young senior dog. Hans has not seen his vet in 3 years. His adopter should be ready to get him in for a senior exam upon adoption. Regular veterinary care and good quality dog food could mean healthy, quality years of life for Hans.
Hans enjoys a daily walk. His owner uses a Gentle Leader harness to help with the pulling he does on a walk. Because he is food motivated, some training with treats for reward could help Hans learn good leash manners. This is a big boy! One should be able to manage his size and strength. We hear of too many dogs who are adopted and then rehomed again because an adopter didn’t consider the dog’s size.
A home with a securely fenced yard will be good for Hans as he enjoys time outside. However, he is not an “outside dog” by any means. Hans naps during the day but is always there to greet his people when they return home from being out. He is accustomed to having people around during the day. Hans will need time to adapt to his new way of life. He will protect his family and home by barking.
Time is short for Hans to find a new home. We hope to find an adopter who will enjoy and appreciate Hans and all the love he has to offer.
Hans is located in Federal Way, WA. For contact information please email: referrals@olddoghaven.org
This is not an Old Dog Haven dog. Old Dog Haven has not assessed this dog for medical issues and will not be responsible for medical care after adoption. We urge prospective adopters to do their own evaluation.
