Joey
Sweet shy boy
Please note: The dogs in ODH's Final Refuge care are not adoptable due to medical reasons and all are in permanent homes. Your sponsorship supports the veterinary expenses for these dogs - and we thank you!
Joey is another little guy who came in stray to a large shelter in May 2023. Probably dumped. His back legs don’t work as they should, from untreated luxating patellas that now can’t be fixed. He then got a stubborn respiratory infection and lost almost half his body weight. He spent several weeks in a shelter foster home to recover.
Old Dog Haven was asked to take Joey. With his physical challenges and age, he had little chance of being adopted. X-rays at his ODH intake exam revealed several healed broken ribs and a partially collapsed right lung. The latter is thought to be from past pneumonia. Joey has had some tough times in the past.
His ODH foster mom learned Joey is a shy soul. He found a bed he liked and spent much of his first weeks there. It took him 3 months to become confident enough to ask for attention. Fortunately, he is a good eater and gained back the last of the weight he lost while ill. Now he runs out to the kitchen and dances with excitement at mealtime. His back legs may be crooked but he can move very quickly for short distances.
Joey is a very sweet dog and thanks to ODH and its generous donors he is safe for the rest of his life.
