Sunny, a 14 year old female retriever mix, whose story showed how, with a little help, a sweet pup can blossom.
Her beloved owner had died which then Sunny was sent to the shelter.  This poor girl was terrified.  Fortunately, a staff member saw her distress and reached out to Old Dog Haven.

From her permanent foster mom:  “When Sunny arrived that first week, she and I ran and ran and ran many times a day to release her stress. It was sad to see when she was searching for her owner.  When she went to our great vet for her intake, Sunny had to be muzzled as she was so frightened in that environment. We gave her lots of hugs, lots of routine at home, and our five other pups helped Sunny settle with her new pack.

“Sunny has minimal eye sight on the left so we walk on her right and leave low lights on for her at night. She hears very little  (but if a dog bowl quietly clinks, she’s right there like a rocket).  Sunny has arthritis, ataxia, and was not able to exercise much in the beginning.  However, with appropriate medications, she gradually began feeling good enough for our routine.  We are improving her exercise up to a regular walk, and she absolutely loves her tennis balls!

“Her beautiful sweeping tail shows how far she’s come. ODH and donors have showed her that there are people who care enough to help a sad sack blossom into a loving Sunny again.”

Update:  Dear Sunny had a wonderful but way too short, two months with her new family.  She enjoyed each day and they are so pleased to have been able to give her so much love and care before she had to leave.  She will be greatly missed.
