Our sweet little ‘shadow’ was found after being hit by a car after his owner died.  Fortunately most of the damage was to his front legs, and this courageous little fella has made a near full recovery. He still licks his scarred areas and cowers around passing cars, but he’s slowly regaining confidence. His real name is Zorg, though we often call him ‘Shadow’ as he loves to follow his humans around. The veterinarian that cared for him after his car accident took him home until Old Dog Haven found a Final Refuge home for him–us!

Zorg is an approximately 15-16 year old Chihuahua mix. Though he tries not to let it slow him down, he has arthritis in his hips. He also has a heart murmur and dental disease so we wet his food to make it softer (and tastier). He gets a couple medicated baths every week to help with his dandruff. He has a cough which may be attributed to tracheal issues. Despite these ailments, he enjoys the occasional very soft chewy and of course his daily walks. He has a fenced backyard but seems to prefer walks, so he gets many where sometimes we even have to power walk to maintain his pace. There’s just so much to smell!

His other favorite activities are cuddling and napping. He has stairs, so he can get on and off the bed on his own. However he sometimes he gets so excited when his humans are going to bed and cuddles are coming, that he forgets about the stairs and tries jumping onto the bed on his own. After a couple attempts, he rediscovers the stairs or his humans help him. It’s wonderful to see his excited face, we can almost see what this silver fox looked like as a younger pup. We also have three cats in our household, so there are pet beds in almost every room which Zorg happily takes advantage of. His preference is a bean bag bed in the middle of the living room floor with the sun shining in.

We’re very lucky to have Zorg as a member of our pack. He is a gentle soul that rarely barks and just wants to be near his humans. He deserves nothing short of love and happiness.

Update:  Sadly, Zorg’s health failed after a wonderful and happy time with his Final Refuge Mom.  He had a truly joyful and much loved last chapter and will be greatly missed.

May the force be with him…..
