It’s not just a walk in the park. It’s a very purposeful walk with a great deal more going on than just people walking with their dogs in the park on a Sunday afternoon.

Our corporate sponsors make it possible for money raised at the event to go to our dogs rather than toward paying the bills for the event. The generosity of our sponsors is not only financially wonderful for the bill-paying part, but also shows everyone what kind of support we have in our community. Kudos to our corporate sponsors!

And then there are the people who sponsor an individual or team who will be walking. The generosity of friends, family members or coworkers is represented by the money raised from these kinds of sponsorships. And, this generosity is very specifically aimed at helping our dogs. It’s not like raising money for a nice, but perhaps unnecessary something; it’s sponsoring to support a need. Our dogs need medical care; none of them is hoping for a face lift for cosmetic reasons. Paws up to our individual/team sponsors!

Oh, and there will be prizes. Once again, here’s where generosity with a specific purpose is involved. All of the prizes for top fundraisers, newest foster family, oldest dog, best costume, best trick and musical chairs have been donated by individuals, restaurants, businesses, you name it…the whole community is in on the act. We love it and are so grateful for the prizes being awarded.

Also, speaking of generosity, this year for the first time we’ll be having a raffle. You could win one of seven prizes, including a Victoria timeshare and Victoria Clipper package:  round-trip for two between Seattle and Victoria on the clipper and a seven night stay at the beautiful WorldMark Victoria Hotel on the waterfront in Victoria. Or maybe you’d prefer Bose headphones, a four-piece luggage set, a fancy coffeemaker, a 32” TV, a Fire Tablet, or a Nikon camera. You could win any of these for just $5 a ticket. What a deal!

I could go on and on about the purpose and generosity involved in the Walk, but you’ll just have to come and experience it for yourself. July 21, 10:00-2:00, Cromwell Park in Shoreline. For more information or to register, please visit: www.odhwalkforolddogs.org.
