Athena
A once-in-a-lifetime companion and soul dog
From forgotten to unforgettable … Meet Athena.
This girl… where does one even start? Athena is one of those dogs who will completely steal your heart the moment you meet her. She’s been through more than any dog should ever have to, spending many years chained up outside in Eastern Washington, braving the harsh weather with no shelter. But despite everything, her heart is nothing but pure, sweet marshmallow.
Athena found love and comfort when someone in Yakima rescued her off the chain, and she was adopted into a wonderful home on Vashon Island — for the first time, she knew what it felt like to be cherished. But when her person passed away a year later, Athena came to her rescuers at Haven. It’s been nearly a year now, and they can’t understand how this big, snuggly girl hasn’t found her forever family yet.
And truly …she isn’t just any dog—she is a once-in-a-lifetime companion and soul dog you’ll still talk about years from now. She’s the one who sneaks into bed at night and somehow ends up spooning you like she’s always belonged there. She loves with her whole heart and soul, and while she needs to be your only pet, she’ll fill your life in ways you never thought possible.
Athena is eight years old and weighs about 60 pounds. She is in good health and well-mannered. Although she does not like other dogs, she adores people. She is also easy to live with and care for and does not need much exercise—short romps in a fenced yard are her thing.
Her rescuers love Athena with everything they have, and believe someone out there is waiting for her magic, too. Could it be you?
Athena’s Haiku:
Chained once, now set free,
Waiting with her gentle soul,
Your heart is her home.
