When a local shelter took Darryl in, he had open oozing sores and was emaciated. Shelter staff treated Darryl for 6 weeks as he also had scabies (sarcoptic mange). His friends at the shelter were more than likely the first kind, caring people he had encountered for quite some time. An Old Dog Haven foster family, whose very first dog was a Golden Retrieve, was honored to take Darryl into their care. Darryl was ALL things Golden; he was so very sweet and he had a way of just making you melt when he looked at you with his warm brown eyes. He loved meeting new people, everyone was his friend. Darryl was very arthritic but he loved going for short walks and he loved sitting with his foster mom at night on the couch to watch TV. Darryl had many health challenges, unfortunately, so time was not on his side. Nine months after coming to them Darryl’s foster family sent him on. As sad as they were to do so, there was much more gratitude for the time they had with such a special dog. Darryl passed away January 20, 2015.
