Groot is a sweet boy who has been owner-surrendered to the same shelter, not once but twice, through no fault of his own. He is an extra-large boy whose owners have had to move and have not been able to take him with them.  Shelter staff tell us that this 9-year-old fellow does not deserve the bad luck he’s had recently. He is a shelter favorite! Groot has been at the shelter since November of 2025 and they are hoping he will leave the shelter once more and this time, it will be to go to a forever home.

Groot is said to be a mastiff mix. He prefers female dogs but will get along with submissive males who have manners. When Groot is walked past the dogs at the kennels, he does so without any reactivity. There are no cats at the shelter. It is unknown if Groot has ever lived with cats or how he would react to one.

This is a smart boy who knows basic commands. He is living in a shelter kennel and whereas some dogs will destroying bedding or toys out of boredom, Groot does not!

Shelter staff state Groot seems to be potty-trained. While we are sure the staff at the shelter try to get him out as often as possible, there are no doubt long hours when this boy has to hold it. Groot is a good boy who deserves a real home with someone who is ready to commit to him for the rest of his life. Are you that someone?

Groot is posted for the Benton County Canine Shelter located in Kennewick, WA. If you are interested in giving this good boy the home he needs, please visit the shelter website here:   www.bentoncountywa.gov/pview.aspx?id=1676&catid=45
