Jackie is an 8-year-old female Doberman who weighs 100 pounds.  Based on recent bloodwork and senior wellness exam she is in good health, apart from being extremely overweight and requiring daily thyroid medication.
Jackie is friendly and responsive when she meets new people, provided she’s properly introduced, and provided they’re not the mailman. She is used to living with other dogs and generally gets on well with them. When she encounters strange dogs while out for a walk she tends to ignore them. Jackie is probably not safe with cats. She has never lived with a cat and to our knowledge has never actually hurt one, but she chases the ferals that sometimes trespass on her yard.

She hasn’t had much exposure to young children; the kids next door to her original home were mean and liked to tease the dogs, so the belief is that she’d do best in a home where the humans are all over the age of 14. However, when she’s met children while out on walks she’s been friendly and enjoyed being petted.

Jackie enjoys going for walks, and until her former owner became ill walks were a regular part of her routine. She also loves car rides and will happily keep you company on both long and short outings. Jackie is an affectionate girl who warms up fast to new friends and loves to be petted and to snuggle on the couch.

Although Jackie likes people, she can be protective. She’ll bark to let you know something unusual is happening, and if a visitor comes into the house uninvited she’ll let them know in no uncertain terms that she’s on guard.

Jackie’s house manners are excellent. She is reliably house-trained and will use a dog door. She is crate trained. She can safely be left loose in the house, although if she’s left alone for long periods and doesn’t get enough exercise she may chew on things she shouldn’t, out of frustration or boredom.

She knows the basic obedience commands (sit, come, lay down), and walks well on a leash (may pull a little but responds immediately when corrected). She is clearly an intelligent dog with a very strong need to please. Jackie’s new family must be willing to give her time to find her feet and feel comfortable in a new environment.
