Jacks is a chihuahua mix who was turned into the shelter as a stray at about 12 years old. Like so many old dogs ODH takes in, his little body told a tale of long neglect. His coat was poor, he was dirty and scared, but that was just the tip of the iceberg. Jacks had very bad teeth, in fact the infection was so bad that it not only caused him to become blind in one eye, but his lower jawbone was eaten away by the infection.

Little did he know that the day he ended up in the shelter was going to the the best thing that had happened to him in a long time. Through Old Dog Haven he found a loving home and his own special person to cuddle with. He went through a lengthy and expensive dental surgery that transformed his life from one of constant pain to one of much more comfort.

Jacks has an ongoing cough issue, so typical of the small breeds. After an echocardiogram, xrays and ultrasound, no ominous cause was found so he is treated with medication to control the cough. This much-loved little fellow now enjoys sleeping in, afternoon walks, and weekends at his mountain home.

Update: Little Jacks, his ODH family and our veterinarians tried so hard to keep him comfortable.   With heart disease, collapsing trachea and airways, the struggle became too much for a little body.  He was sent on his way peacefully; his family was so glad to have spent the last 18 months of his life with him.
