Jackson
Ready to join your family!
“Howdy! My name is Jackson and if you are looking for a new furry family member, I just may be the pal you’ve been hoping to find. I am a 9-year-old Labrador/Shepherd mix. I am a solid fellow who weighs 70 pounds.
“I have lived with other dogs and do well with them. I am accustomed to having a dog buddy around for company. It would be nice to find another home where I can make a new friend to spend time with when the humans have to leave the house to go about their business. While I have lived with cats, I will chase those who are unsure about me. I have been a great family dog, living in a home with children. My request would be, though, that if you have kids in your home, you teach them to treat me with kindness and respect. Treat me this way and I will, in return, be gentle and loving.
“I enjoy going for walks, but I have been known to pull when I’m on leash. If you take time to work with me, I could do much better. I have in the past! But in the meantime, be sure you can manage my size and strength. I don’t want to lose my new home because I was too big and strong for my new person.
“Toys are my favorite! Because the dog I’ve lived with destroys them all, I’ve not been able to have any stuffed toys for a bit. I’d love to be able to have them again. When I’m feeling a little nervous I like to chew on a chewie toy. If I have a stuffy I can take it to my bed and nuzzle it. I treasure my toys; I am not destructive with them.
“During the day I have been fine to stay alone with my dog companion when the people leave. Some days when it’s nice out, I hang out in our fenced yard. I am hoping in my new home there will be a fenced yard I can go out into when I want to. It is fun to sit in the sun, smell all of the smells and listen and watch the goings on in the world around me. I will bark to let you know when I am ready to come back inside. If I don’t have a securely fenced yard, I will get out and I could get myself lost or hurt.
“If I must, I can hold my potty for a long time. I would rather not have to wait too long, that is uncomfortable after all! Stairs are not a problem for me right now. As I age, this could all change but I would hope allowance and compassion would be shown to me. If we are lucky enough to grow old, things change for all of us!
“When you return home for the day, I will talk to you. It’s my way of welcoming you home. This always made my family smile. I am a cuddly, sweet boy, and I am smart, too! I follow a few commands and could probably learn some more. I aim to please and hope someone will love and appreciate all I have to offer. With good quality dog food and regular veterinary care, I hope to make lots of happy memories with my new family. I am ready for them!”
