13 year old Jenny and her best friend Zara were living alone in the family home after their humans had passed away. A caring family member was coming to care for them but that was not a long term solution; the girls needed to move. They needed a home where they could stay together, forever.

Jenny’s humans had tried their best to give the girls the care they needed but it was beyond what they could manage. Jenny suffered from years of untreated dry eye; which caused loss of vision. Her skin was thickened from allergies, after years of only being fed chicken and rice. Jenny’s teeth had never been cleaned and she was diagnosed with a heart disease which was untreated.

An Old Dog Haven Final Refuge home was found for Jenny and her lifelong friend. Upon their arrival, Jenny’s foster began treating her dry eye. The thick green pus Jenny had stuck to both eyes had to be gently cleaned for a few weeks with an eye wash before the lubricating eye gel could be applied. Once she saw a vet other drops were added to the regime. Jenny recently saw an animal ophthalmologist who added in an anti-inflammatory drop. Her tear production has improved, the green pus is long gone and it is obvious that Jenny’s eyes no longer bother her. Jenny will need drops and gel applied to both eyes multiple times of day for the rest of to keep her eyes lubricated and infection-free.

Jenny has seen a cardiologist and was prescribed medication for her heart condition.  Her diagnostic blood work also revealed that Jenny has kidney disease. She now receives a compounded medication  and her kidney values will be monitored. Her skin and coat are much healthier from being on a healthy and well balanced diet and bi-weekly medicated baths.

We hear that Jenny has really come out of her shell. No doubt, feeling better has helped this girl find her voice and enjoy zooming around the house! In spite of her lack of vision, Jenny enjoys getting out into the backyard not only for potty breaks but for sniffing, sniffing and sniffing! She has learned to navigate going up and down the gradual ramp into the house without issue. Jenny will find toys to play with or find Zara and engage in play with her.

Jenny’s foster mom is so thankful both dogs will always receive the best medical care and finally have the great life they deserve!
