We would like to introduce you to Kalli, a black Labrador Retriever who found herself in the shelter after her person passed away. Kalli was posted for adoption, but no one wanted her. She needed an Old Dog Haven home, and in July of this year, a lab-loving home was found. It was a perfect match!

Kalli’s forever foster told us that Kalli settled in immediately. She got along well with the other three Old Dog Haven dogs and the resident Chihuahua right from the start. Within a week, it was as if she had been there for years. Very quickly, she staked out 75% of Mom’s loveseat as her own (she’s a big girl!), and she became the perpetual Kitchen Supervisor. She is always in the kitchen. Food is a big deal for Kalli.

Her love of food and lack of oversight by her former owner are how Kalli became morbidly obese. The unnecessary weight has caused her many problems, causing pain in her back, knees, hips, and shoulders. Her dedicated forever foster is helping her take it off. Kalli eats a prescription weight loss diet, and she receives pain medication and supplements to help with her arthritis. Since her arrival, her diligent foster mom has helped Kalli lose about 15 pounds. There are still a few pounds to go, but we are all so proud of her!

Kalli isn’t much for activity. We are told she is always the first to head off to bed at night and the very last to get up in the morning. Not until Mom asks, “Who is ready for doggy breakfast?”, will she emerge from the bedroom. Kalli loves her walks with her Old Dog Haven foster brother, Conan, also a black lab mix. While the walks are not long, they both enjoy sniffing everything they can find.

In the summer sun, she will work on her tummy tan – lying on her back, legs in the air, catching some rays. And yes, she has fallen asleep like that, what a happy dog!  Kalli is a sweet, affectionate, perfect Lab girl who is thriving in her Old Dog Haven home.

Thanks to Kalli’s forever foster and everyone who supports Old Dog Haven, this dear senior girl has found care, comfort, and joy.
