Lovely Lucy is an English Springer Spaniel who weighs 45 pounds. Lucy will turn 13 years old in July of this year. We are told that “everyone loves Lucy!”. It sounds as though there is a lot to love about this very nice senior girl.

While she has never lived with another dog in her life, we are told that Lucy loves to meet new dogs. Lucy has been boarded at in home boarding many times and she has enjoyed spending time with other dogs. Perhaps she’d like a canine buddy in her new home? She has never lived with a cat but is curious about them when she has seen them. Lucy enjoys humans of all ages, including children. We would suggest a home with kids who are old enough to understand being gentle. As it happens with dogs as they age, Lucy has slowed down, so her reaction time would be slower to move out of the way of a toddler or young child.

Lucy has lived with a senior man who has not left her alone for more than a few hours at a time. The hope is another home with a similar lifestyle, someone who is home more often than not. During the day, Lucy needs a potty break every 3-4 hours. At night, Lucy sleeps in her bed beside her owner’s bed. She is a devoted companion who will need time to bond with someone new, but we believe showing compassion to her during this life-changing move will be well worth it!

Lucy’s new human(s) should make time for playtime and regular walks. She can walk up to a mile sometimes. Lucy is a good girl on leash. She does not pull, which makes a walk even more enjoyable and a great way to bond with her. Lucy’s new home should be a one story home as she has arthritis in her hips and an old partial CCL injury on her left hind leg that could potentially cause discomfort. At one point, her vet prescribed an anti-inflammatory, but she is currently not taking it. Dogs are stoic. They often keep going even when they have aches and pains. Lucy will still chase bunnies out of her yard but best to keep her comfortable. Lucy does receive a daily joint health supplement and an Omega-3 supplement, which should be continued. Lucy’s adopter should be able and willing to afford regular veterinary care, grooming, and good-quality dog food.

Lucy barks at appropriate times: when she is accidentally left in the yard, when it’s time to eat, and when she sees a dog out the window. Aside from that, she will “talk” to you. Lucy enjoys receiving affection and attention. This very friendly, very happy dog is as loving as she is beautiful. Lucy’s person is sad to part with her, but he has no choice. His hope is that he can find her the best home to spend the rest of her days in. Lucy’s owner has asked that an adopter live in a radius of 100-150 miles from Seattle. This way, he can drive her to her new home.

Lucy is located in Woodinville, WA. For contact information please email: referrals@olddoghaven.org
