Meet Sweet Mabel June, an 18‑pound bundle of fluff who is probably a Shih Tzu–Havanese–Maltese mix… but honestly, she could be part marshmallow for all we know. Whatever she is, she’s 100 percent cute.
Mabel arrived at the shelter as a stray, so her past is a mystery. What we do know is that first she charmed her shelter foster family, then arrived at ODH looking adorably shaggy, and immediately won over her permanent foster and our vet team. Her lab work looks great, though we’re still investigating a suspicious leg growth that doesn’t behave like a typical fatty lump. Two needle aspirations shrugged their shoulders, and an ultrasound showed healthy organs but no uterus. So for now, Mabel keeps us guessing — and we’ll take things step by step to figure out the best plan for her.
Personality-wise, Mabel is a polite little lady… with one hilarious exception. She believes she is Head of Security. If a person, dog, bunny, or rogue leaf dares to pass by the window, she sounds the alarm with great enthusiasm. Thanks to her vigilance, we have had zero intruders. Coincidence? She thinks not.
She’s only been with us a couple of weeks, but she’s settling in beautifully. Mabel June is sweet, spunky, and ready to keep perfect watch over her new home.
