Sadie

Sadie is a 63 pound, 9 year old Lab mix with Cushing’s Disease. Her original owner had to surrender her when she couldn’t care for her any longer. The cost and extensive care for a senior dog with Cushing’s Disease meant that, if sent to a shelter, she would likely be passed over for adoption, so she came to our home in December of last year.

She arrived with many typical Cushing’s Disease symptoms like excessive thirst and urination, thinning hair, itchy and smelly skin and an enlarged belly. Her initial vet exam was scheduled quickly since there was uncertainty about the state of her Cushing’s Disease. The exam also uncovered a UTI, which is now being treated with antibiotics and she will eventually need dental extractions. She has more upcoming vet visits to help her get Cushing’s symptoms under control and feel more comfortable.

Despite her health issues, Sadie has adjusted to our home in no time at all. She joins our two resident dogs and the cat, Margo. They were all unsure of her the first couple of days but now they are patiently teaching her the routines and getting along wonderfully – yes, even the cat likes to sleep next to Sadie. She’s just so likable! Sadie’s favorite time of day is any time when there’s a chance she might get food and she comes running when she hears anyone eating. When she gets bursts of energy, she likes to play with her toys but otherwise likes to relax on any of the comfy furniture. She wags her tail all the time and seeks us out for pets and scratches.

We feel privileged to be Sadie’s forever foster home. Her quiet presence and constant smiles seem to express “I’m just happy to be here!”
