Maisie
Sweet and cuddly
Maisie is 8.5 years old. She is a 44-pound yellow lab mix. Lovely Maisie has been through so much change recently. We expect dogs to adapt so many times. One has to wonder how we would do if we lost our family and home over and over? Maisie’s last home was with a kind woman who had her for 4 years. Sadly, this woman has had to move to assisted living.
Extended family cannot take Maisie in as they either have cats or work long hours away from home. They tried to rehome Maisie recently, but she decided to nip the person’s visiting grandchild on the bottom. Turns out the reason she had to be rehomed originally was because her first family had young children as well . Maisie has made it known: she does not appreciate young children. That is not something we hold against Maisie, as this is the case with many dogs, especially senior dogs who do not like the unpredictable movements of youngsters.
Maisie lived with a dog for the first 4 years of her life. The next 4.5 years, Maisie did not live with dogs, and interactions at the dog park (not always the best way to judge) were “hit and miss”. Perhaps she could live with another dog if her adopter was dog savvy and knew how to do proper introductions and integration. However, we don’t want to set this girl up for a failed adoption. If you are currently living a pet-free life and would like a buddy, Maisie could be your best pal!
Because she lived with a senior human who was home most of the time, Maisie became accustomed to that. Now that she has been moved to a family friend’s home where she has been staying home alone for about half the day. Maisie knows how to use a dog door. She enjoys being outside in a securely fenced yard when the weather is nice, so a dog door to go in and out as she would like will be perfect.
Maisie enjoys 2-3 short walks a day. She does really well on leash but she is very strong. One should be able to manage her size and strength on walks. We are told she had “extensive surgery on her left knee” in January 2026. She has healed well but has a bit of arthritis in her right knee. At this time, she does not take anything for her joints; a supplement could help with that. A vet visit to determine if she needs something for pain would be nice for this girl. At this time, Maisie can still manage stairs. Her family sent a photo of Maisie enjoying time in the water. Maisie loves her squeaky toys! Who doesn’t love watching a senior dog play with toys? That always makes us smile.
A true lover of people, Maisie is sweet and cuddly. She will attach herself to her human, and she is friendly when meeting new adults. Maisie will make a wonderful addition to an adult-only home. Maisie has a temporary place to stay right now, but this is not permanent, so she needs to find an adopter soon. We are hoping that Maisie’s next move will be her last one. She shouldn’t have to adapt again.
