Please note: The dogs in ODH's Final Refuge care are not adoptable due to medical reasons and all are in permanent homes. Your sponsorship supports the veterinary expenses for these dogs - and we thank you!
Martha is the cutest happiest little dog, but she didn’t arrive at the shelter like that. She had a large weeping mammary mass (all too common with dogs who have not been spayed), and two hernias. While at the shelter she was spayed, the hernias repaired, and the mass removed all in one long complicated surgery. Afterwards she developed an infection in her incision making things still more miserable for her. She was well cared for however in a shelter foster home while she healed. By that time the mass was found to be malignant and had spread to lymph nodes. ODH stepped forward and said they would give her a home and love for whatever time she might have left.
Martha believes she is just fine, thank you. And who needs to hear things anyway when you have foster sibs to tell you when you should bark? She is an easy-going, well-mannered, and very smart little girl. She enjoys her food puzzles and learning new hand signals, but her favorite things are her dad and her “Smiley”. Like all children she wants the family to say good morning and good night to Smiley. The day she insisted on taking Smiley for a walk, she discovered that she couldn’t hold him and sniff the ground at the same time, so mom was enlisted to carry. Smiley is her best friend.
Martha will continue to enjoy life and entertain her foster family for as long as she is comfortable and then she will be sent on in their arms knowing she was loved by her family and well-cared for by Old Dog Haven.
