Max

10-year-old Max sounds like a delight! He’s estimated to be about 45 pounds; his breed mix is unknown, but what a handsome boy he is. Max lost his home when his humans’ relationship fell apart. He’s been fortunate to have a place to stay until an adoptive home is found for him. Max is ready for his adoptive home!

At this time, Max lives with 4 female dogs and a 20-year-old cat. We are told Max does well with all of them. In his former home, he lived with a child who was over 10. It always helps when a dog has been so well socialized. He enjoys the attention he receives when visitors come over and loves to say “hi” through the fence to neighbors and their dogs. Such a friendly guy!

During the day, Max is crated when his caregiver leaves the home. We are told he has been fine outside of the crate as well. With his adoption, one would want to give him time to settle in before leaving him for too long. Max knows how to use a dog door but has been able to manage without a potty break for a few hours. His caregiver believes he’d be happier if he didn’t have to sleep in his crate at night. He does need a home with someone who shows him there are boundaries. Max has been known to try to take advantage of his good looks while not following the rules of the house. As many dogs do, he will bark when someone comes to the door or when he’s excited.

Max’s caregiver is in the process of getting his vet records. It may be that he needs his vaccines updated. He does appear to have some arthritis in his rear knee/hip; help for that could make him more comfortable. He can do stairs at this time, but living in a home with many could become difficult for him as he ages. As always, we recommend that Max’s adopter be able and willing to afford his lifelong veterinary care and good-quality dog food.

Daily walks or time to play outside make Max very happy. He can pull on leash, so one should be able to manage his size and strength. Max does everything with enthusiasm. He sounds like a very happy, fun dog. Whether it’s playfully chasing the vacuum cleaner or sunbathing in the yard, taking in all the smells and sights, or snoozing on his back on the couch, Max will make you smile.
