Miles was brought into a shelter by someone who said he’d found the dog; sadly, the microchip was registered to the “finder” who evidently had neglected him for years and then abandoned him. As is so often common with this breed, he had terrible “dry eye” and badly infected ears. The pain was so great that he just couldn’t allow treatment, no matter how hard his ODH family tried to make it pleasant. He just couldn’t trust enough to let his face be handled. We decided to remove the extremely painful (and nonvisual) eye which should have ended the pain, but the surgery was just too much for little Miles. He was released from this last struggle with much regret – if he’d only gotten to us much sooner, before the neglect caused that much pain….

He was loved, and we take comfort in knowing that he spent his last weeks being valued and with as much comfort as he would allow.
