14-year-old Muffin is a precious, 18-pound bichon/shih tzu mix in need of an adoptive home.
Described as a “happy girl”, Muffin loves people and has done well meeting friendly dogs where she lives. Muffin has never been observed around cats. We are told she does fine with gentle, respectful children.

Muffin’s owner is no longer capable of caring for her dog; she lives in a senior facility, and the staff has asked Muffin to be removed. Because Muffin’s owner’s dementia is progressing, she is unable to get Muffin out for potty breaks. Potty pads have been used, but sometimes Muffin “misses”.  Friends have stepped up to help Muffin and her owner as much as possible, but the best thing for Muffin and her human is to find a new home for Muffin. She needs an adopter who is capable of providing Muffin with a home where she will remain for the rest of her days. This girl should not have to endure the loss of another home.

A wonderful friend of Muffin took her to the vet recently. The vet stated she had moderate dental disease. Additionally, Muffin has a large mass behind her ear that was aspirated. The results were benign. One could proceed with surgery to remove the growth, but that would require anesthesia. An adopter should be able and willing to cover the cost of this if they were to proceed with getting these health issues addressed. Our recommendation would be that the adopter to take her to their own vet for a second opinion to discuss options. She is a 14-year-old dog, so one would want to be sure that anesthesia is a safe choice for her. Grooming and good quality food should be provided for Muffin as well.

At this time, Muffin spends her time in her person’s apartment. Recent walks had to be discontinued when her walker, a kind neighbor, became ill. Muffin would LOVE to resume going for walks! We are told that she loves going for walks and that she is “great!” on leash. Reportedly, Muffin can still manage stairs, though she does have arthritis (expected for her age). Her left is getting a little cloudy, but again, with age, that is to be expected.

Living the lifestyle she has, Muffin is accustomed to having human companionship. Ideally, she will have another home where she is not left for long hours. We are told she can stay alone when needed, and that is actually healthier for a dog to be OK being left alone than having someone around all of the time. The only time Muffin barks is when she has been left alone too long.

Muffin’s story is one we hear on repeat almost every day. The loss of a home due to an owner’s age/health/death is the number one reason that we hear a dog has to be rehomed. We urge everyone, regardless of age and health, to make plans for their beloved dog.

Muffin needs a home A.S.A.P. If you have a heart and the means for a senior dog who needs you, please consider the reward adopting a dog like Muffin will bring.
