Please note: The dogs in ODH's Final Refuge care are not adoptable due to medical reasons and all are in permanent homes. Your sponsorship supports the veterinary expenses for these dogs - and we thank you!
Punkin, a 14-year-old female Shih Tzu is the epitome of Old Dog Haven rescues. Blind in one eye, very little sight in the other and needing dental work, Punkin came to ODH care desperately needing TLC. Thanks to the Maranda Fund, ODH had her spayed and her damaged right rear leg amputated before she came to her Final Refuge home.
Now, happiness for little Punkin seems to be sleeping until 9 AM, enjoying breakfast, and then finding a lap to sit on and get petted. Like most of the seniors who come into ODH care, Punkin’s backstory is murky. But this little one has never had an accident in the house, loves to sleep on laps, and is perfect in the car! She doesn’t like to be groomed, though and is very protective of “her” yard. She chases away all invaders, i.e. squirrels and cats, as she believes is her right. Whether it’s running around the house with the other dogs, going up and down the stairs or chasing her ball in the back yard, Punkin is living the good life now.
Punkin’s people tell us, “We are so very glad ODH trusted us to take care of this little dog. And we’re very glad for all the ODH donors who enable Punkin to get the very best veterinary care!”
Update from Punkin’s Mom: Punkin is so full of life, wanting cuddles and hugs from everybody she meets. Mostly blind and deaf, she sleeps more now, but she still gets around beautifully. Her happy dance is contagious. She is always a favorite when representing ODH at events, causing people of all ages to fall completely in love with her. Punkin is the perfect example of why the Maranda fund is so important. She does not let anything stop her as she joyously faces life every day. Her foster mom adores her and happily shares her with a Yorkie brother who thinks Punkin hung the moon, Thank you, ODH, for giving this angel a new life and allowing me to be a part of it. I am forever grateful.
Update: Punkin has been with Old Dog Haven for 6 years now, and is a happy 20 year old.Still her cuddly, adorable self, her family could not be more in love with her. Punkin is a perfect example of how wonderful The Miranda Fund is. Thank you ODH!
