Punkin
Now a very happy pup
Please note: The dogs in ODH's Final Refuge care are not adoptable due to medical reasons and all are in permanent homes. Your sponsorship supports the veterinary expenses for these dogs - and we thank you!
Punkin, a 14-year-old female Shih Tzu is the epitome of Old Dog Haven rescues. Blind in one eye, very little sight in the other and needing dental work, Punkin came to ODH care desperately needing TLC. Thanks to the Maranda Fund, ODH had her spayed and her damaged right rear leg amputated before she came to her Final Refuge home.
Now, happiness for little Punkin seems to be sleeping until 9 AM, enjoying breakfast, and then finding a lap to sit on and get petted. Like most of the seniors who come into ODH care, Punkin’s backstory is murky. But this little one has never had an accident in the house, loves to sleep on laps, and is perfect in the car! She doesn’t like to be groomed, though and is very protective of “her” yard. She chases away all invaders, i.e. squirrels and cats, as she believes is her right. Whether it’s running around the house with the other dogs, going up and down the stairs or chasing her ball in the back yard, Punkin is living the good life now.
Punkin’s people tell us, “We are so very glad ODH trusted us to take care of this little dog. And we’re very glad for all the ODH donors who enable Punkin to get the very best veterinary care!”
Update: Punkin is slowing down – not that she was very fast – but at 18 she it is to be expected. She no longer wants to go down the stairs so I carry her down. However, she insists on coming up on her own. My husband is in hospice care and Punkin has been a wonderful companion to him. Most of the time she can be found sleeping on the hospital bed by his side. She truly is a great little dog!
