Rosie
Loyal and Steadfast
Rosie has proven herself to be a loyal, steady friend and now she needs someone to commit to her for the rest of her days. She is a 12.5 year old corgi mix who weighs 38 pounds. Rosie is a gal who enjoys a calm and quiet home as she is accustomed to that lifestyle. Rosie had been a longtime companion dog for an elderly owner who has passed on. She had many admirers in the assisted living apartment, allowing people to pet her. Rosie is now in need of a true forever home so that she will not get passed on to someone else again. We want to help Rosie find a home she won’t lose and one where she will receive the care she needs in her golden years.
This nice girl has been around other dogs and done well with them as long as they don’t get in her face or try to be too assertive with her. We are told Rosie prefers smaller dogs. It sounds as though she’d do well with another mellow, older dog who matches her temperament. She was terrified of a cat she stayed with for a couple of days after she was smacked in the face by it. Rosie steers clear of cats and even while out on a walk she does not pull toward them. Young, active children make Rosie nervous. She’d be happiest living in a home without kids or one where young children come to visit.
Rosie has been OK to stay alone when the humans need to leave. We are told she’ll pick up a shoe and hold onto it, never damaging it. Isn’t that sweet?! Rosie needs potty breaks at least every 5 hours and as she ages she may require them more often. She has been known to use a potty pad when she has to. Ideally she will find a home where people are around for company and she is allowed to go outside into a fenced yard for potty breaks as she needs to. We are told she’d probably love a home with a dog door. At night Rosie finds a dark, quiet spot to sleep. She is not a lap dog or very cuddly so she won’t ask to sleep with her people. During the day she does not get underfoot but doesn’t stay too far away.
A home where she can continue enjoying her short daily walks will be wonderful for Rosie. She is very good on leash. No speed walking for Rosie! A nice leisurely pace where she is allowed to sniff all the things she wants to is perfect for Rosie. Rosie enjoys time out in her backyard. She has been known to hunt small animals if she can catch them. Rosie will bark in the backyard if she hears other dogs or kids on the other side of the fence. She is not an excessive barker but she will bark when someone comes to your door (appropriate barking!).
Stairs can be difficult for Rosie. A home without too many if any at all would be kindest for her. Uncarpeted stairs worry Rosie as they are a hazard for slipping. She has ridden in elevators without any problem. Rosie has some arthritis for which she takes over-the-counter glucosamine. It sounds as though Rosie could use more help with her arthritis as her people believe she experiences hip pain. With her short legs and long body, keeping weight off Rosie will be important. Good quality dog food and regular veterinary care is a must for Rosie, as it is for all dogs. Rosie does experience anxiety over common triggers-fireworks, grooming, nail trims. Her owners give her a pill to help with anxiety as needed; none of this is unusual at all.
We think Rosie sounds like such a good girl! She has been a comfort and true friend. Rosie needs an adoptive home soon.
