Star
Ready for a new home
“Why hello! My name is Star. I am an 8-year-old husky. I can’t tell you exactly how much I weigh, but my caregivers estimate about 50 pounds. My human dad recently passed away, and since he left, I am being cared for temporarily by his family. I am grateful to them for keeping me safe. I don’t want to end up in a shelter, and no one has mentioned sending me there; I just know there aren’t many other options if I can’t find an adopter.
I am an outside dog. You may see my breed and think that it’s OK for me to live all of the time outdoors, but I will tell you, it is a lonely life. I am not sure why anyone would think a dog would enjoy being outside all of the time; we are social beings who enjoy companionship. I would love a home where I can be around my humans and other dogs. Because I’ve not lived indoors, no one can say much about my behavior indoors, but I am very smart, and I have no doubt I can learn the ways of the indoor dogs. I see them in the house and wish I were one of them!
There have been other dogs in my life, both small and large and done well with everyone. I like kids too, just as long as they’re old enough to know to be gentle with a dog and not climb on me or pull at me. I do not like cats; I will chase them if I see one. If I’m given the chance, I will get a chicken.
When I was younger, I tore the ligaments in my back legs. Thankfully, my human had them fixed with surgery. Since then, I take a joint supplement, and I get a shot once a month at the vet to help me with pain. This is another reason I should be indoors more than not: the cold can cause more pain. You know, that achy feeling you get when it’s cold out? I can’t get away from it during the winter because I am outside. I can still do stairs, though I don’t have to do them often. I hope my new person will take good care of me, keeping up with my vet appointments and all I need to stay comfortable and healthy.
While I don’t get much exercise or walks, I behave best when walked with a harness. I would probably really enjoy more time out of the yard to explore with my new person. Speaking of yards, I do need a home with a securely fenced yard to keep me safe.
People tell me how pretty I am and what a good girl I am, too. I don’t bark too much; I am smart and playful. I am a young senior! While I miss my dad, I am excited thinking about the chance to be inside and start life with my new human family. I hope to find them soon.”
