Trixie (Tzu)
Funny, adorable character
Please note: The dogs in ODH's Final Refuge care are not adoptable due to medical reasons and all are in permanent homes. Your sponsorship supports the veterinary expenses for these dogs - and we thank you!
Trixie is a petite shih tzu who was brought to a shelter as a shivering stray – her eyes crusted shut, hair greasy and matted, skin covered in sores and weighing only seven+ pounds. At the shelter she was found to be missing some of her lower front teeth and part of her mandible (jawbone), and suffering from a massive skin infection, dry eyes, and parasites. Since coming in to Old Dog Haven care, she’s had repeated vet visits, medicated baths, oral antibiotics, spray antibiotics, two kinds of eye drops twice a day and parasite medications. Now her skin infection has cleared up and her beautiful, full coat just shines! Spaying and microchipping are next on the list. The ophthalmologist found she is totally blind in her right eye from a detached retina, with limited vision in her left; although she will need ongoing eye drops, her limited vision doesn’t stop her from getting around the house, deck and yard.
Her ODH mom says: “Trixie loves people (kisses anyone?), belly rubs, following the other dogs (and cat) around and trying to entice them to play, exploring the backyard, taking walks, eating (she’s gained a pound!), sleeping on my desk in front of the keyboard while I work, sleeping on the back of the couch behind my head when I watch TV or read, and at night sleeping on my bed (no, Trixie, not on my pillow). She’s a funny, happy, adorable character, full of love. I am so thankful and happy that ODH was able save her, and that I was chosen to take her into my home.”
