Alfred was surrendered to a shelter, absolutely obese, by his lifetime owner who said their new home was too small for him. The shelter vet found him to be dangerously immobile, presumably from arthritic joints, so he went to an ODH home familiar with large stiff dogs. Alfred unfortunately had far more problems than he showed at the shelter and all our vet’s efforts at diagnosing and treating them were fruitless. His quality of life continued to deteriorate and his ODH mom decided that it wasn’t fair to continue. She’d worked so hard to help him and he knew he was loved and accepted. Sometimes that’s all we can do. Alfred died February 2015
