What an interesting-looking girl Annie is! This 10 year old Jack Russell Terrier/Basenji mix weighs 30 pounds. Annie is described as being “a very sweet and loving dog who talks the Basenji talk when she meets people”.

Annie is almost completely blind. She lost her ability to see a year ago. With time to adapt, she showed the resilience many dogs do when they are faced with challenges. While Annie has done well with her visual impairment, she will need to learn the landscape in her new home, and this will take time and patience. We have seen many blind dogs do very well, so please do not let that deter you from considering Annie! Dogs with disabilities can inspire.

While Annie has never lived with another dog, we are told she does great with other dogs. Annie has been boarded with other dogs, and she has enjoyed when other dogs have come to her home for a visit. Annie’s person believes she would be happy in a home with another friendly dog. The key will be finding a dog that will be OK with a blind dog who may bump into them or invade their personal space as Annie learns her new digs.

Annie has not lived with cats, but we are told she is curious about those she has come into contact with. She is great with gentle, respectful children. It seems like Annie could fit in about anywhere, but her best home would be where someone is home often. Long hours totally alone would be hard on Annie, especially at first, since she will be in an unknown place. She is not a demanding dog, just one who appreciates companionship.

When one leaves the house, Annie can manage quite a few hours between potty breaks. A reminder that one will have to help Annie learn where the door is to get out for her potty breaks. Annie is a very intelligent dog. She uses her working senses to figure things out. Annie has been able to navigate stairs. She will need to learn how many stairs there are and where they are. For her safety, so that she doesn’t fall down stairs, one should assist her until she figures out “the lay of the land”.

Annie is taken for a walk once a day. She is good on leash, but she will need guidance on her walks until she learns the route. Can you imagine how much more she hears and smells as a blind dog? Annie will bark to let you know when someone is at the door. At night, she will sleep either in her crate or in her dog bed. Annie sounds like such a nice girl. She is a beautiful girl in need of a home where she can continue to receive the love and attention she deserves.
