Scout
Beautiful and good tempered
Scout is an 8-year-old girl who weighs 75 pounds. We are told she is a blend of German Shepherd, Labrador Retriever, and Golden Retriever. Isn’t her copper color gorgeous?!
In addition to being a pretty girl, Scout is a very smart, sensitive girl who loves her people.
With time, proper introductions, and smart integration, Scout could live with another dog. She currently lives with a dog who is her best pal. It would be so nice if she could find a home with a calm, mature dog who can help her relax and adapt with her move. Scout needs a no-cat home, she sees cats as something to chase.
Scout is another dog who needs a new home because she dislikes young children. We find this to be a very common reason. Often, senior dogs and young children don’t mesh well. The sudden, unpredictable movements and sounds of young children can startle and stress an older dog. Scout’s family states she is fine around older children. We would recommend 12 and over only. Our belief is that it is best to move a dog when they are in a situation where they are unhappy and stressed. In spite of her family working with a trainer extensively, Scout is not adapting to their crawling baby as she becomes more mobile. The hope is to find Scout a home where she can feel comfortable and enjoy her life amongst her adult family.
During the day, Scout is fine to stay home alone in her home. She enjoys the company of her dog buddy while the humans are away. Scout can manage quite a few hours between potty breaks. When her family is home, she spends time in her fenced yard. Scout does bark when dogs walk by or when someone comes to the front door. She is a good alert dog.
Time for a daily walk is enjoyable for Scout. Her family reports she is good on leash but one should be able to manage her size and strength. Scout is a big, strong girl! She can manage stairs without issue at this point in her life. To help keep her healthy, her adopter should be willing and able to provide her with regular veterinary care and good-quality dog food.
Scout is described as having “a quirky personality”. Out of happiness, she will tap and shake her head when you are home. She loves a good belly rub and will roll over to earn them. Scout will thrive in a home where she has time to enjoy the companionship of her people (who are her favorite!), perhaps another dog buddy, and time to retreat to her own bed and relax when she wants to. Scout is ready for her new home!
