Buddy
Social butterfly
Buddy’s owner passed away unexpectedly, and he was left without a home. Lucky for Buddy, a kind friend took Buddy in, making a promise that she would find him the best possible new home. Buddy is a dear, gentle boy who is affectionate and tender-hearted.
Buddy is about 10 years old. Since joining his marvelous, temporary caregiver, Buddy has lost weight, and he now weighs 70 pounds. Buddy loves walks and is a social butterfly. He enjoys his time out meeting new people and other friendly dogs.
Currently, Buddy is living with a couple of dogs. They are younger than Buddy. With his last owner, many dogs came to visit, and Buddy did well with all of them. He lived with 2 cats in the past. We are told that Buddy was very interested in the cats but they kept to themselves. As a dog ages, their reaction time slows down; the sudden and unpredictable movements of young children can cause a dog to be anxious. Buddy prefers not to spend time around toddlers or younger kids who could pull on him or accidentally fall on him.
Buddy’s mobility has improved so much! He can now walk up to a mile. Stairs were difficult for him to manage, but now he can manage about 5 stairs. Ramps are still a helpful tool for Buddy. While he’s doing much better now with an NSAID and other medications/supplements to help with his pain, a home with many stairs could be difficult for Buddy. Now that Buddy can walk farther than he could when he first arrived, he got a little excited and ran a bit when he was at the dog park. It will be important for Buddy to find a home where he can keep moving. Buddy isn’t going to be someone’s running partner, but he is certainly up for a daily easy-paced walk that can be enjoyable for his walker, too!
Be sure to save room for Buddy on the couch! He’s a cuddler who enjoys time with his humans. Like most dogs, he lives for his time around people. He would do best in a home where he is not left alone for long hours. Certainly will need time to settle in once he finds a new home. We would bet a home with another senior dog whose personality is similar to Buddy’s (SWEET) could make his transition smoother. He has gone through a lot of change; he should be shown patience and kindness.
Buddy can manage a few hours between potty breaks. If the sun is out, Buddy loves to bask in the warmth. He is not a barker, but he likes to talk; he is very vocal.
Buddy has some decreased night vision, which can be common in senior dogs. Buddy’s adopter will need to be committed to continuing his veterinary care, including providing the medications he needs to stay comfortable. Because he is a large dog, one must be able to manage his size and the strength he can show when he wants to go a certain way on leash!
This delightful boy has never met a person he doesn’t like. He has so many friends in his neighborhood who are rooting for him. We would love to help him find the loving home he deserves!
