Shelter staff reached out to Old Dog Haven about sweet Camellia, who arrived as a stray at a local shelter. This poor girl had suffered from long-term neglect and was in terrible condition. She had matted long hair that pulled at her skin and was covered with fecal matter. She had one deformed ear (likely from an untreated hematoma) and both ears had major infections. Her teeth were also in bad shape and she had issues with her anal glands that were causing her discomfort.

Camellia was extremely frantic and stressed at the shelter so everyone was relieved when a wonderful permanent foster home was found. Within 48 hours of leaving the shelter, she was seen by a professional groomer who had to shave her all the way down to the skin to free her from her matted fur. She was also examined by a vet who prescribed treatment for her infected skin and ear infections.

Despite everything she had been through, Camellia settled into her new home quickly and spent the first few days decompressing and sleeping.  Her new family made sure she received her daily antibiotics and with lots of love and attention, Camellia soon made a full recovery and is feeling much better.

Today, Camellia is deeply bonded with her foster family, including three other Old Dog Haven foster dogs. She loves curling up in an empty lap or snoozing in her cozy bed by the fireplace. Her foster mom describes her as sweet, smart, and always finding ways to make her laugh.

She shares, “ I feel very blessed to be entrusted with the care of these precious old dogs that make our lives happy and whole. Thank you to everyone involved with Old Dog Haven and for making it possible for these dogs to have another chance at a happy life.”
