Duke and Mya’s former owner reached out to us for help earlier this year. Their owner was a disabled senior who had not been able to take care of them for quite a while. Time was short to find a home for them, so we were relieved and grateful when one of our established forever fosters said she would take both dogs and keep them together. Both Mya and Duke arrived pretty smelly with very long nails. Their forever foster has had them groomed, and now they look, smell and feel so much better!

Both dogs also arrived with medical issues that needed to be addressed. Mya was missing most of her teeth, and her breath was terrible. The eleven remaining teeth she had were abscessed and needed to be extracted during a recent dental procedure. She has dry eye and has been prescribed daily medication to treat her condition and keep her comfortable.  Duke is blind in one eye and also received dental surgery, where he had six teeth extracted. Thanks to our generous donors, he was able to see an animal dermatologist to help treat his itchy skin and will be on liver medication for the rest of his life.

Duke and Mya are now having the time of their lives in their new home. They go for daily walks and stroller rides and love to cuddle up on the couch and nap. Here is what our forever foster told us about the pair:

“Duke and Mya fit in here beautifully within minutes of arriving. They get along great with resident brother, Beau and the cats. Mya is front and center. She lets me know when she and Duke want outside, or inside, or it’s time to go for a walk, or eat or cuddle, or play.…and Duke quietly agrees with her. Mya’s favorite toy is a soft, tiny ball that she catches, rolls on and throws back to me. She is a character! Duke’s favorite toy is a stuffed animal raccoon that is almost as big as he is. It’s surprising to see this quiet little guy growl and shake that raccoon ferociously!

“Duke and Mya are usually within a few inches of each other and me. Duke and Mya love each other and I’m so grateful they were able to stay together and join our family. They’re happy dogs and feel so much better now that they’re getting the medical care they need through Old Dog Haven.”
