Champ
Happy little pup who loves to cuddle
Please note: The dogs in ODH's Final Refuge care are not adoptable due to medical reasons and all are in permanent homes. Your sponsorship supports the veterinary expenses for these dogs - and we thank you!
It is hard to imagine how scared Champ must have been running loose and being mostly blind and deaf. He was a “stray”, dropped off on the shelter’s doorstep, with no microchip, so no age or history. He seems to see changes in light, but will run into walls. Champ is thought to be long-haired chihuahua/ or Papillon. The shelter reached out to ODH and there happened to be a long time foster looking for a dog that wanted to be carried so the volunteer transport team was notified.
Champ arrived at his new forever home and a full medical was done soon after where he was determined to be close to 14 years old. All vaccines were given, and also a grade 4/5 heart murmur was discovered. X-rays revealed some arthritis so Champ was started on medications to help with that. An eye specialist confirmed that he had only about 10% vision left so little Champ was started on eye drops. After an echo cardiogram showed it would be OK to do a dental, he was started on heart meds and had the dental surgery. Seven teeth had to be removed.
Update from Champs foster: Champ has been with me about 3 months and has settled in nicely. He has brain mapped the house very well. He also was treated for an abscess thought to be from where his vaccine booster was given. He’s happy and comes to me every morning for a cuddle. Old Dog Haven makes sure he has all needed medical care including expensive medications. Champ has had two episodes of pancreatitis and is now on prescription food also covered by ODH.
I love this little guy and we are very grateful to all the support from donors to make sure he has the care he needs.
