Cherry
Loves to snuggle
Please note: The dogs in ODH's Final Refuge care are not adoptable due to medical reasons and all are in permanent homes. Your sponsorship supports the veterinary expenses for these dogs - and we thank you!
Cherry found herself in a shelter and was not put on the adoption floor due to her age and many medical issues. Old Dog Haven was asked for help and Cherry made her way to a brand new forever foster home who told us Cherry settled in beautifully with their own senior dogs.
Since her arrival, Cherry has had quite a bit of medical care. It was known she had both kidney and heart disease. Each are serious conditions but when a dog has both, it means very regular monitoring of the heart and kidneys. Cherry had an echocardiogram with an animal cardiologist to be sure she was on the right dose of cardiac medications. It was also important to receive recommendations from the cardiologist about putting Cherry under anesthesia. Because her dental disease was so severe, the hope was that she could have a much-needed dental.
Thankfully, Cherry was able to have her dental, and 20 teeth had to be pulled! One can imagine how much pain she has endured over time due to those teeth. She recovered well and is now much more comfortable and her heart and kidneys remain stable. She will continue to receive daily medications for both and remain on a kidney diet for life. We will hope for loads of quality time ahead for this girl who is both beautiful on the inside and outside.
Cherry’s foster home tells us she is a very loving dog that likes to snuggle. You will often find her napping the day away with her siblings on a cozy couch or bed. Thanks to Old Dog Haven, Cherry knows she is part of her very own family who will make sure she always receives the love and care she needs for life!
