Drax
Handsome and well-trained
Handsome Drax is losing his long-time home and family. He is a 70-pound pit bull who is about 11 years old. He is described as a “snuggly couch potato” who enjoys soft blankets to cuddle up in.
Drax currently lives with another dog. He has done well with this dog and could perhaps live with another dog after proper introductions and smart, mindful integration. Drax would probably be best in a home without cats, as he is not friendly towards cats he does not know. While he has been OK with teenagers, a home without children would make him happiest.
When one must leave the house, Drax hangs out in his crate. He can manage quite a while between potty breaks. Giving Drax time to acclimate to a new home and schedule will be so important. We all want to be shown compassion and understanding when we go through a major life change, don’t we? Drax will be a lookout for strangers and unwelcome visitors outside. He will bark to alert you so that you are not taken by surprise.
While he’s not a dog who expects daily walks, we’d encourage regular exercise for Drax. Walks can help develop a bond between human and dog. Drax will pull while on a leash, especially if he sees a cat, so one should be able to manage his size and strength. We cannot stress the importance of working on your dog’s leash manners! Drax is a very smart boy who knows some verbal commands already. We bet he’d love to go through some training with his new person.
Drax can still manage stairs. He enjoys time in a fenced yard but not for too long and certainly not when the weather is poor! Drax would rather be in his blankets or with you in your bed! This very nice boy needs a home with someone who will commit to him for the rest of his life, providing veterinary care and good-quality dog food. He does have environmental allergies, for which he takes Apoquel. This should be continued by his adopter.
This nice boy is hoping to find a new family very soon. Drax will be a devoted buddy to a single person or complete an adult-only home.
