From her Final Refuge Mom: Flo was found on the street by a good Samaritan and brought to an ER vet clinic. She was emaciated, infested with fleas and had a severe case of dermatitis that caused her to lose most of her fur. Her skin was red, inflamed, smelly, and very painful. A routine intake exam at the shelter estimated Flo to be 13 or 14 years old, still intact, with suspicious looking mammary tumors on her belly and a heart murmur. Every picture of this little creature screamed misery. Given her condition, there was zero chance she would be adopted from the shelter.

Flo’s first week after coming home with me was packed full of medicated baths, vet appointments, and a refeeding schedule that helped her gain weight gradually. After a comprehensive intake exam at her primary veterinarian, a treatment plan was put in place. She received an allergy shot to help alleviate her severe itchiness, eye drops to relieve pressure in her eyes, and medication for her heart murmur. Within 2 weeks she was well enough to be spayed and mammary tumors removed.

A much-needed dental will be done to make sure we are not placing too much stress on her heart, along with frequent ophthalmologist visits to monitor the pressure of her bulging eye. Now that she has settled into her Old Dog Haven final refuge home, this little girl has blossomed into a smart, funny, and affectionate dog that follows her Mom everywhere. Her transformation was astounding.

Because of Old Dog Haven, she will live out her life in our home, surrounded by her rescued brothers and her 16-year-old Old Dog Haven foster sister Ruthie.
